Been there, done that, several times, luckily we have local transit buses though they are not frequent, at least we can get around, but having the donkey makes having a vehicle necessary as I have to bring in hay (picture 5 bales of hay in a Hyundai Pony) :wink:

I haven't had a car for 10 years. It actually works out cheaper (in the Uk anyway) to use public transport and hire cars for when you really need one. I tend to look carefully for the cheapest train fares, although I am not as good as some. 2 singles are cheaper than a return 90% of the time.

Luckily the town I live in is not car friendly, so the buses are reasonable, and cycling paths are everywhere. It is perfectly possible to live without a car.
