Medlar Cuttings

After wishing for a while that i could accurately identify a medlar tree, my dad's friends have told me that they have one in their garden! The good news is that it fruits every year, and that the woman of the house doesn't know what to do with the medlars. The really good new is that she said i could take as many as i wanted!

However, i'd like to know whether you can take cuttings of a medlar tree and grow another one.

Anyone know?

Looks like you can, you'll need an apple rootstock.

They are apparently very hard to grow. Luckily for me, I have 3 bushes near me that end up groaning with fruit - much more than I can use. Good thing too, as medlar wine is a favourite.

I've had three bushes in two separate gardens. In both cases they were planted before I moved in and I haven't had any problems growing them. They are very prone to greenfly though so I am going to try Andy's jam tip this year.
