Post: # 65626Post Millie »

Off for a weeks hols soon and need some fun but cheap/free things to do with the kids. We have a day planned on the beach, will probably go to Lynton & Lynmouth one day as the kids love that, but Im a bit stuck for other things to do!

Suggestions gratefully recieved

There is the South West Coast path... it runs all the way around the Westcountry... but suggest you just walk a bit of it! scenic

could visit Dunster... castle there... could look at it from the town, free...

thats about 2-3 miles away from Minehead... prolly not flat for cycling.. but its a thought..

LOL apparently the coastal path is 600 miles long. We are staying in Dunster, right on the beach, which is lovely for walking into Minehead.

Ive had a good search round for stuff, just cant believe how much some places are! We love Watermouth castle, but now they have decided they are a "theme park" they have hiked their prices right up

Apparently Watchet is nice, might try there.

Thanks Red!

Careful on the South west costal path-some of it is missing! mainly down on the south coast luckily. You could go up Dunkery beacon and see how far you can see (weather permitting) there's also an Iron age Cairn up there too. I like Watchet, a walk around the new Marina aand watch the train but there ain't a lot there. Coombe Sydneham's not that far, not sure if its much to get in, but apparently there's an old Medieval village in the grounds and good fishing. Depends how far afield you want to travel, if you go inland a it Glastonbury and Shapwick Peat Moors Centre is a fun day out, they hold quite a few events there during the summer Try here for a link there And Hestercombe House(a team effort by Sir Edward Lutyens and Gertrude Jekyll.) near Taunton.

Depends on when you're down here as there are usually a load of seasonal stuff going on Dunster show/Honiton Show/Steam Galas that kind of thing. I would recommend a trip on the West Somerset Railway, tie it in with a trip to Taunton as there is a linking bus into town (Every Thursday is Farmers Market in the Centre)

Hope that Helps
Kind thoughts
Deb
