Tinnitus - an update

Does anybody have a cure for it? Mine is getting really bad now. I know it's stress related and will, hopefully, ease off after the end of September (when this job finishes) but in the meantime I have to put up with this irritating high-pitched ringing in my ears.

I haven't been to the doctor with it. Is it worth going? Can they do anything? I did have acupuncture a few years ago but it didn't seem to help.

Any advice gratefully received.

eat bananas - something to do with potassium levels.......and avoid
pharmaceuticals, additives and sweeteners (even relatively "innocuous" things like aspirin give me a humdinger of an attack of it)

good heavens! - I had a little Google on the subject, and came across this - the homoeopathic remedy for tinnitus!!!!!!!!

"Salicylic Ac. (30C) is a homeopathic remedy indicated for tinnitus with loud roaring or ringing sounds, which may be accompanied by deafness or vertigo. This remedy is particularly useful in people whose symptoms began with a bout of flu, Meniere’s disease or long-term use of aspirin. Because it is presented in homeopathic potency, Salicylic Ac. carries none of the negative side effects of pharmaceutical aspirin, yet offers excellent benefits"
- which if I remember right means that it's an incredibly tiny dilution of aspirin - which would rather explain why it gives me tinnitus! - ‘similis similibus curentur’.....

Thanks, Martin.

I usually eat a banana a day so I doubt it's that. I did read somewhere that it is linked to the use of Aspartime - you mentioned sweetner. I've just started slimming world so am eating more things with sweetner in. I will try to reduce that and see if it helps.

If I can get into town on Saturday I might look for the homeopathic remedy as well.

Cheers

sweeteners are filthy things - if in doubt, have a google.......just dump the bally things! Aspartame is well known to cause all sorts of nasty side-effects -you'd be far better off with some natural sweetness, and lose weight a little slower!

I developed Tinitus when I was first pregnant with my daughter - apparently it was as a result of a hormone imbalance. I have to say it was probably the most distressing thing I have ever had and I truly wouldn't wish it on anybody (Ok well maybe a couple of people  ). I couldn't stand the sound of running water or music. I did go to the docs and they told me that it was probably hormonal but there was not a lot they could do for me even if it wasn't  I consider myself very lucky that it only lasted a few weeks - it was total hell - the only relief I had was, oddly enough, in the car - the sound of the engine somehow drowned it out!!
Thomzo - you really do have my sympathy and I'm really sorry that I can't offer any constructive advice. I do hope that you are lots better very soon
Kind regards
Helen

I made a decision to have an aspartime free day today. It has eased off a bit but that's probably because I've been given another couple of days to complete a piece of work.

if its a sensitivity to the bally stuff, you can't just "ease off", you have to cut it right out of your diet completely!
If you can, stop completely for a week, then, once it's had a chance to clear completely from your body, have a hefty dose of it - bet it'll blow your ears off! :geek:
(often the reaction when re-introduced can be quite spectacular!) :drunken:
(or best of all, don't bother - live without the rubbish, and enjoy a tinnitus free life)

"Toxicity Effects of Aspartame Use
Selection of adverse effects from short-term and/or long-Term use
Note: It often takes at least sixty days without *any* aspartame or nutrasweet to see a significant improvement. Improvement in health is also often accompanied by weight loss. Check all labels very carefully (including vitamins and pharmaceuticals). Look for the word "aspartame" on the label and avoid it. (Also, it is a good idea to avoid "acesulfame-k" or "sunette.") Finally, avoid getting nutrition information from junk food industry PR organizations such as IFIC or organizations that accept large sums of money from the junk and chemical food industry such as the American Dietetic Association.

I reckon giving any child "diet" anything is tantamount to poisoning, and should be treated as such!
What is interesting is that this stuff is flogged as "diet", suggesting it as being a healthier alternative to natural sweeteners - yet as the results of many studies are showing, people actually GAIN weight while using it, and it also causes cravings for "fattening" foods........If you have the slightest doubt, next time you see people with a chronic weight problem standing at the checkout - odds on they'll have large bottles of "diet" something or another in their basket!
Terrible stuff, brought to you by the dirty dealings of one Donald Rumsfeld, (yup, THAT Donald Rumsfeld) the cuddly American, who fiddled it through legislation in the US! :geek:

"In 1978, Rumsfeld became CEO of the G.W. Searle Corp. By June, 1981, his political muscle overcame science so that the deadly neurotoxic artificial sweetener aspartame could achieve U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approval.

The FDA has linked aspartame to 92 symptoms including paralysis, blindness, neuroses, sexual dysfunction, asthma, diabetes, chronic fatigue and death. According to the Centers for Disease Control, nearly 500,000 Americans each year are simply dropping dead from cardiac arrest. A growing coalition of physicians and researchers believe aspartame is behind these and many other unexplained deaths."

I must say that I don't normally eat much diet stuff and I've had tinnitus for years so I'm not convinced that it's the only cause in my case.

I know that it is definitely stress related. I'm wondering whether to just wait and see if it goes away in two weeks when I finish work? Only then I'll have the stress of trying to find another job.
