"Adding to the problem was the diversion of crops to produce biofuels."

I think we will have a lot of difficult time ahead not least due to the unpedictable weather however I think there is a lot of spare land and also contaminated land that could be used for bio fuel production perhaps as prices rise we may see some inward investment into uk farming

I was in the home brew shop the other day and was told that all beers are going up by 30% because of the higher price of grain. Same applies to bread too.

not just on the other side of the world - grain prices are going up everywhere. we are all in for a hell of a ride, but should be a bit easier for those of us growing some food.

Yeah, I have been told that the price of beer is going up, could be as much as 30% because of the cost of grain for the malt.
Bugger Eh!
But Nev, it sounds like your drought is no joke, even the vineyards sound stuffed. Your entire agriculture industry is in real deep crap.
Has either of your main parties promise rain if elected?

Politicians... Would you believe anything they promised?
Yep, all prices up here as well. Haven't bought any beer for a while, so don't know about that - but everything else is skyrocketing.

Yeah, getting rain here in sydney but not necessarily where it is needed, in the agricultural areas. Even without climate change, the Austrlaian continent is dry and drought is a natural part of the landscape, but we will insist on working in marginal areas......
I keep hearing about vegetables that won't be available thei summer, first carrots, then spuds. No absolute no-shows in evidence yet though. (have planted both - see how we go!
