Viridor, who operate a large landfill nearby are planning to construct a hi-tech incinerator for non recyclable waste. The locals are revolting! I suspect it's more NIMBY than anything else.

There's already a huge landfill, a cement works and a nuclear power station in the area. I think in principle it's a good idea to have the incinerator, but I am only one of 3 in the Parish! Needless to say that the other two are avid recyclers/eco minded/public transport types, but the revolting locals are of the multi car household/Tes*o shopping/full wheelie bin each week type.

A pressure group has been formed (with the usual corny acronym name :pukeright: ) There's a meeting tomorrow night, but sadly I can't go - I would be interested in other views/experiences of these facilities.

If this goes ahead, it could cope with non-recyclable waste for the majority of south-east Scotland. AND it's on a main rail link with an established rail-head terminal.

Make sure you write in support of it, then, but with a few provisos, eg actual emissions should be publicly available so problems can be spotted and corrected immediately; genuine non-recyclables only (again open publication of a breakdowns of what is incinerated); and full recycling of ash, metals recovered, etc.

And don't you just love the way every village in the country is picturesque...

I'm not sure. Where I am theres an incinerator. The council have some sort of contract I think to supply a certain amount of waste. The result is its very difficult to get them to provide any kind of plastic recycling because its more profitable for them to incinerate it.
