My front door opens straight into my kitchen which is a nightmare when it comes to having a 6 year old, 2 dogs and 2 cats with muddy feet! We want to build something on the front, cheaply & easily, (hubby says preferably in wood - he likes wood) so that shoes can be taken off and left there. It cant be big because it will encroach on the driveway. Anyone got anything similar at their house that they can let me have a photo of or anyone with any designs in mind please? Have searched on internet but under porch the piccys are large, ornate things thats really not what we want. Perhaps thats not what the thing I want is called?

My front porch is only 4X8, 1 sheet of plywood, I don't know if you have stairs to your porch.

My porch isn't closed in, but could be. I don't have a pic just now-no scanner, and the latest film I took is being put on disc now so I can load it into the computer.

SO if I can ever figure out how to post a pic on here, I will-if not email me and I can email you a pic when I get them back(3 days)

I cant draw electronically and havent a piccy - but if you were to put up two posts either side of the door and two posts a yard or so out and a pitched roof on top (side to side) ^ (4+3 pieces of 2x2) you could then board the sides up to the roof level (and featheredge? board the roof too - with a roll of flashing as 'coping' and to flash to the house wall and some waterproofing medium of choice for the wood - rain would go away from the door and you could even create a small bench either side for sitting and de-wellying
It could be as plain or fancy as you like

the featheredge and flashing? well I have a half shed (woodshack/lean-to) made from leftovers from next-doors fence and a pallet, it sits against a garden wall and it has been very useful

Thanks for your help both, thats great and exactly the sort of thing we wanted! Will pass these onto Mr Chadspad and hopefully he will get it done before summer comes round again lol. Will post piccys when it gets done.

Remind me on Sunday and I'll carry my camera on my walk to work on Monday (I can't do it before then). There are loads of home-made porches in the council estate that I walk through. I'm sure to find some examples for you. If you don't remind me, I shall forget all about it.
