Has anyone tried just plain fried sliced puffball mushroom cut 1" thick in organic butter until golden then add a goose egg scambled on top .

I LOVE puffball mushroom - but haven't had it with scrambled goose egg on top.

We dipped slices in beaten egg and crushed breadcrumbs and fried with garlic. YUM.

Must say, I wasn't too impressed... Last year we had quite a few puffballs here (plus other mushrooms that I'd never seen in this place before - they all came out last year!), so I tried a few of the young ones, but didn't repeat the experiment... A matter of taste, I suppose.

I love puffballs the way my grandad used to do them:
sliced +fried in bacon fat, served with bacon, fried egg, and freshly fried mussels.

we don't seem to get them locally - but when i lived elsewhere there were plenty - I could never fathom at which stage you should cut them though

Our puffballs only grow to about an inch across!

I must admit we are very lucky where we live , having worked in most of the woods and forests in the north you get to know the areas pretty well,
listening to the local farmers is also helpfull as farm animals produce great waste and in the preceeding months rots down to produce a great medium for all mushrooms.
so follow old forest tracks and byways wich are not used regulally and this should prove fruitful for them

in our part of the world being damp i have been fotunate to find puffballs as big as 12" across

In NZ they are huge and I fried this one up to see how it tasted and whether I would live after I ate it
