I know its early but i have a very large family...and this year decidied to make ALL my christmas and birthday presents!...can knit and crochet....but only just learnt them both...and have a sewing machine
but want more ideas please!

1. crochet fluffy funky hand bags
2. knitted scarfs
3. croched beanie hats
4. sewn bags
5. homemade blackboards
6. cushion covers from old jumpers

7. Apron
8. draw string bags - wee cosmetic type ones, or toy storage for kids
9. bath salts in fancy second hand jars (I know you can't knit them but all my female relative got these for christmas and they all liked them)

items dont have to be knitted, bath salts is a great idea!!

need ideas for
teens, men, kids(same thing really), and people who have everything!

neither are mine...but its tough, as i have no money to buy, so homemade it is
its the thought that counts and i will remind them of that when they recieve them

for the people who have everything? you can NEVER have too much storage!!! -

a) cover any suitable boxes (not just shoe boxes but they are ideal) with old wrapping paper, brown paper, cut out bits of scrap paper to make decoupage designs and when dry varnish with pva glue... theme them or provide a space for removable label using plastic window piece out of old envelope that cant be recycled or composted or the choice is yours...

nice idea for kiddys mobiles...

b) lay clingfilm over a flat surface (sheet of cardboard fine) and paint a thick layer of acrylic paint over it. wait till it dries... peel it off and cut it up to create different shapes (use a hole punch to make hole, or a sharp skewer) and hang with wire to an old wire coathanger... cool, huh? make "plates" of different colours to create different designs and stick together with pva glue which dries clear.

Diaries and photoalbums

I have a laminator and collect up and dry petals and leaves, glue to some painted cardboard, laminate these as front and back cover pages - but you don't have to laminate if you cover with some varnish or PVA, punch holes and thread cord through as the binding, and fill with either blank sheets or printed date sheets, or I decorated the corners of some blank pages - if I had thought to take photos I would stick one on now as I think my description/explanation lacks something.

I have also taken, very cheap photoalbums, which usually have revolting nasty covers on, taken the inner sheets out and rebound with the same hole punch and cord method with a personalised cover.

I make all my own pressies for birthdays and Xmas and now quite frankly don't care if the family 'get' it - that's what they get! (Unfortunately it is all on the in law side that don't understand and just think I am some strange mad hippy woman leading my other half astray - to France!)

Craft supplies for the smaller kids; seed pods, stuff from op shops, small hanks of wool, scraps of fabric, buttons, interesting little boxes etc etc. Pack up a box, you could even make up a personalised art smock.

MP3 player covers for the older people (watch out though, two of my sister's friends are horrified with her gorgeous little crocheted ones that look like bears or kitties).

Photo frames made from all sorts of things, even old books (although the idea of cutting into the cover of ANY book scares me).

Recipe books you make up yourself.

Homemade toiletries in old jars with fabric or crocheted lid covers.

Tulle bags with drawstrings to pop your veg in to be weighed at the store.

Oh, I'm so glad that apart from the step-kids we do Chriskringle!

The recipe book idea reminded me:

When friends have commented on a meal that I have cooked - I have bought the ingredients or they have come from my garden - I put them in a box, or jar (for cookies and cakes) complete with the hand written recipe on some decorated paper.

- For example - I make a mean lamb curry with home made nann breads and have given people my nann bread recipe in a jar with the dry ingredients and home grown herbs, along with a copy of the curry recipe and a home made spice mix to throw in with the meat.

- Good for blokey gifts.

sadly i dont think the offer of home-made presents included one for me with my wishlist of more storage... i.e. house or garden bigger than a shoebox
