I'm 9 weeks pregnant!

Hideously tired, often very moody and emotional....no sickness....first scan of Jellybean stuck to fridge, booking in at hospital tomorrow.

Was hoping for less medical intervention than last time, but I have a blood conditon called Factor V Leiden which means I'm dosed up on low dose Asprin and have to give myself daily Heparin injections in my tummy....nice!

Am tempted to annoy the hospital by asking if I can have a Home Birth..although Ellis' birth itself was fine, my post-natal care in hospital was very distressing and the thought of laying in bed in support tights being bullied by childless midwives is filling me with dread. But I think I know what the answer to that one will be...a big, fat NO! Besides, I'm not sure I can do it without the wonder of DRUGS! (But I'd like to think I can!)

Anyway, tis nice to be back. I have a lot of catching up to do.....

Keeping my fingers crossed for you. Oh well, maybe not all that time - that's still 7 months!
OK, I'll start to cross my fingers once I've delivered all those lambs. And if you do decide on a homebirth - can't be much more difficult than delivering triplets - 12 legs to sort out - so maybe I can offer my services?

What hopsiop are you going with? (assuming that your anti-natal care will be from the same one that you get a midwife from... whether having at home or not)

I'll go one step further and say that only people who have had at least one really difficult pregnancy, labour and/or birth should be midwifes... then maybe they would understand more about us 'difficult' patients [/rant]

First off, very belated congratulations! I don't see why you couldn't ask for a home birth. And remember, it's your right to have one. They're not "allowing" it. The question is not "please may I have a home birth". The statement is "I'm booking to have the baby at home". What happens after that is in the lap of the gods. You never know. But it's a lot easier to book a home birth and change your mind than it is to do it the other way round. Although of course there's nothing to stop you from staying at home instead, once you're in labour.

And lastly, as an ante-natal teacher and maternity specialist in what I do, I completely agree with the statement that midwives should all have given birth. I also think obstetricians should have done so too. I simply cannot understand what makes a man want to spend his days up to his elbows in a woman's nethers. And yet ther are far more male than female obstetricians, most of whom have never seen a normal birth.

I could rant on about this all day. Best I stop now.

Ann, I'm looked after by Wishaw General...it's a bit of a pain because I have to trek up there every Wednesday morning to get my bloods done because of this blood condition. So that's a toddler, two buses and a small fortune of a procedure that takes a minute! And we have to miss Toddler group for it....to be honest, I don't understand why I can't get my bloods done up my local surgery, they have a pick-up to Wishaw every day anyway.

Reason they are reticent about home-birth is because of my blood. Because I'm on heparin, which is a blood-thinner, they don't really want me going into labour early (with heparin still in my bloodstream) because the birth could lead to haemorraging. When I had Ellis, I was booked in for induction at 37 weeks so they could take me off the heparin in good time....however, Ellis decided to come early so I was rushed into High Dependancy with a full crash-team on standby! And, sod's law, barely bled at all. So they're a bit concerned about a home birth needing an emergency hospital transfer anyway, IYSWIM.

I don't mind giving birth in hospital, I'd just like to get out of there as soon as is humanly possible! I'm hoping that, as it will be my second child, they will see fit to boot us out of the door after a few hours and I can go home to my own family, own bed, loo and bathroom!

Well good luck with whatever you go for, crappy about your treck to get your blood taken... by then I bet your blood pressure is through the roof anyway lol. Not good for Ellis to be missing toddlers either Hows he baring up? is he bouncing off the walls yet?
