Saved by Mrs Flibble's aloe vera

I accidentally burnt my wrist on the oven last week. Straight away I tore a leaf of the aloe vera plant that Mrs Flibble sent me a few months ago (thanks Mrs F). I rubbed the sap over the burn.

Since then it has healed perfectly and hasn't hurt at all. A little redness at first but that soon calmed down and now I just have a small scab which is coming off in its own time.

Thank goodness for the aloe. Without it, I would have a nasty wound and, no doubt, a horrid scar.

Yay for Vera! It's fantastic stuff - ours came from Mrs Fibble too! It sits on the kitchen windowsill for occasions just like the one you mentioned - and boy does it work a treat! It's a fab plant - and it's had babies - which we've passed on to other friends. Funnily enough We found this site looking for a friendship cake recipe but we seem to have ended up with a friendship aloe vera instead!

I've got babies too. Just starting to poke their noses through the soil so not yet ready to pass on. But fingers crossed.

Mine arrived with babies... but they are still quite small, the whole thing could do with being re-potted actually, it is a bit lopsided.

I recently had a bit of sun burn (I suffer really badley from sunburn) and I made up my own after sun cream with some aloe in it - just popped it in a garlic press to take the juice out - my cream also has lavender and te-tree in it, very soothing

I recently found a rather wonderful book with lots of info about Aloe Vera in it along with recipes for making stuff with it. I must try some of them sometime!

'ello Vera is wonderful stuff, my original fell out her pot she was so lop-sided but I got a baby from freecycle. The old one still seems ok but has no root

Can someone advise me of the best way to care for them please?

I know that you can drink the juice but does anyone know how you get the juice out? Can you just shove it through the juicer?

Aaghhhhhhhhhhhhh no - it is a powerful laxative - you'll poop for England and Scotland etc. I'll find the book in the morning and give the ISBN number and the we'll be safe!

I bought a bottle of Korean Aloe Vera drink on a whim, a couple of weeks back (and on the basis that I'd never seen it before and didn't even know it was edible!)
It was good - very sweet but then it had a lot of sugar in, no doubt.

I've no idea how it was prepared to make into a drink, though.

It was the first plant I bought in NZ, at the time we had only been in the country a couple of weeks and were living in a combination of a tent and a van, the prized plant lived in the van for a couple of weeks, since then I have given away several baby plants and it now needs repotting yet again and the babies separating off. I am tempted to see if I can grow it outside here.

I know its supposed to be a laxative, but for those with severe digestive problems (IBS, Crohn's, etc) it does have a soothing effect on the digestive tract if taken in small amounts.

To get the juice, cut a leaf lengthwise and scrape the clear jelly out. A spoonful of that once a day ought to be enough.

Better yet, mix the jelly into a smoothie. Mmmm blackberries and yogurt . . .

PS: Is it possible its just the green skin that's a powerfull laxative?
