Due to the world wide revolution that does appear to be underway, added to the fact that it is not happening where I live I have decided to start my own #occupy movement called #occupyyourgarden.

It is really easy to join, all you have to do is just garden and grow food.

It does not have to be your garden, an allotment will do fine, failing that find some land and use it. Container box gardens also applies, along with window boxes or anywhere or thing else that you can grow food in. Even if you only have access to woodland  practice forage management and plant out apple tress and soft fruit bushes, in years to come you will reap the benefit of this investment.

So join up, oh, you already have, excellent work!  It may not be the front line but it is just as important.

We have a big patch of land near us that has been unused for years, we have asked the council and they say it is public but we cant grow on it. It doesn’t even get looked after. I think I am going to occupy this space and grow vegetables!!

I’m growing on my porch but the comment above inspired me to search out a spot for urban guerrilla garden. I know fava beans grow fairly unassisted in our area in the winter. Will put some seeds somewhere. Also was thinking how nice it would be to put some food growing containers along the sidewalk in front of our house and encourage others to share the plants and the idea.

Check out Hugh Fearnley Whitingstall’s website (River Cottage) for information on using common land for growing. Also for his ‘Land Share’ project…Using neighbour’s gardens and other land etc
