Re: Finished already?

Forgot to check the OG  I added 1.3kg of sugar to a gallon of juice. There were raisins in the mix also. Should I leave it for another couple of days in the demi-john to see if it starts?

If the SG is 99, what is the alcohol content? And how soon should this be drunk?

Thanks both

Re: Beetroot cake recipe?

Very similar is Hughs beetroot brownies - a clear winner in our house! The beetroot makes them so moist and they last for days (or not if my son gets hold of them!)

Re: Avocados

I have 2 growing at the moment and have had several in the past all just grown by putting the stone in a plant pot and leaving it! Ive never bothered putting them over water, just bung them in a pot and they all come up!

Re: Plum Wine

Stoney, what about using raisins to bulk out the plum wine altho my book says 3lb plums for a gallon is enough. Some of the best wine I ever made was plum - colour was amazing! Good luck

Finished already?

Im making elderberry and blackberry wine. I left it in a bucket for 7 days where it frothed along nicely. Yesterday I put it into a demi-john with an airlock but ive not had a single bubble. Is it possible that fermentation finished in the bucket? Its been quite warm here. What can I do to check? Th...

Re: 1st time growing sweet potatoes from shop-bought tubers

Ive managed to grow them successfully by just cutting them up and putting them in a pot - they sprouted (it did take a really long time) and I planted them out and had sweet potatoes. Your way looks much more interesting tho and fun to be able to see them growing - good job  Hav...

Re: Most "money-saving" vegetable

If I could actually get it to grow, sweetcorn for me. Its 2.95 euros for 2 measley cobs here. But as Ive spent 5 years trying to grow it with little success, I'd have to have a bumber harvest to recoup the loss!

Ive just seen u can chop it up then place into ice cube trays to freeze. Has anyone tried this? Does it go all mushy?

Re: Broad beans & potatoes

Yes we have had blight before. Another problem I thought of is if the broad beans arent ready before the potatoes, I might disturb the beans  Perhaps just side by side will be easier.

Broad beans & potatoes

Can these be planted together in the same bed? Ideally, what I'd like to do, is have them in rows, alternating them so the broad beans grow between the potatoes. Will it work?

Re: First life of 2012 - What are you sowing?

Those that have sown toms & chillis already, are they to go in the greenhouse or for outside? Im thinking of starting the above on windowsills to put outside earlier than normal (usually start seeds off April) but will the seedlings just be leggy from lack of light this time of year? Im just gag...

Re: rhubarb rhubard

Ive never had any luck with rhubarb either. Ive even planted it down by our source which tends to be boggy but never really does anything.
