Watching TV makes your eyes turn square If you say you don't believe in fairies, a fairy will die... (very upsetting as this was overheard by my naughty brother who made me cry by killing thousands...) If you don't close your mouth a bee will fly in Swallowing apple seeds will mean they grow in your...

I transplanted our leek seedlings into lengths of cardboard tubing (actually cut up tubing from inside black polythene roll, maybe a bit more robust than toilet rolls). Drop in seedling (after trimming roots and tops) and water to top (you have to push the roll into the earth a bit for sturdiness). ...

Costoluto Fiorentino (think I spelt that correctly) - Italian variety of beef tomato. Grew them as a bush tom as I wasn't sure whether they were bush or cordon. Had to stop after 8 trusses - only as they were sooo heavy. Huge red fruit, some bizarre shapes, great fun and delicious as a salad tom, or...

Pam & M3 Thanks for your posts - I remember a quince tree/bush in my parent's garden when I was a child and it had the loveliest salmon pink flowers as well as really dark brown wood, a great combination. Thanks for the idea, I shall investigate further and put onto my 'wish list'! I love crab a...

Hmm, not sure about a correlation between month of birth and liking for that season - though I was born in October and think it part of the best season due to all things mellow and fruitful, I was born in the southern hemisphere in the Fijian spring - so I guess no correlation there... I'm sorry to ...

Hey. Looks like a victoria to me (though am no expert). Not sure why tops plums are ripening first but I shouldn't worry (more sun?) - you'll just need to invest in a ladder to get to them before they drop! Disease sounds like sawfly - try this link: http://gardenaction.co.uk/techniques/pests/plum_s...

Is it possible to compile an online petition? Send it to the MP for Stratford/chairman etc? If you write a brief 'this is who we are and what we think' and send it to the local/regional press you may find it makes a mark? I've heard of plenty of 'save our allotment' plights that have been resolved i...

Did you see T***o advert last night?

I was watching a programme on primary school kids learning to interact/play nicely (whilst reading Alan Carr...). In a break there was a T***o advert promoting a 'carry a bag' campaign - "we all know we use too many carrier bags..." - showing BBC favourites doing a T***o shop with an appro...
