Re: To all those junk collectors

The council took the opportunity to cut our "recycling" services during lockdown - it's unlikely they'll increase again. The shipping container for electricals is still there, as is a small thing for hazardous waste - oils, paint etc.The bottle banks (not run by the council, I think) are available f...

Re: Self Sufficient 2021

You wouldn't think lockdown isn't completely lifted until later this month (if then) up here. Wall to wall campervans, tents, barbecues and other "waste" being left in situ as the campers move on.

I don't know about pubs, Flo. We don't have many round here.

Re: Back to my old ways (in a little way)

I think if you have room to do it, why not have a go? We looked at it a while back as my OH had a brief flirtation with beer-brewing (just by way of a quick aside, the best beer we've ever made was following the Hamilton's beer on here). It's not particularly complicated, just essentially amounts to...

Re: What are you harvesting now?

I've never heard of perennial cauliflower, ina! I've just Googled it and found out it's what I thought was perennial broccoli - Nine Star broccoli.
You live and learn.

Re: Growing in 2021

I can't disagree, ina. The EAT Lancet diet, being touted as the healthiest diet, has to be based on food being available from a global market with no concern re. climate change etc. It also seems to rely heavily on highly processed forms of vegetable proteins. Unfortunately, I think big business wou...

Not me!

It feels a bit weird that you're starting frosts etc when we quite clearly haven't finished with winter yet.

Re: Supporting the Economy

I don't know, Flo, but hopefully some common sense might start to prevail. I've just driven 70 miles to get coal from a coal merchant who was closed - they work reduced hours over the winter!!!!
