Blueberries and peppers

Two queries in one really.... I bought a blueberry plant (for ages i thought they were more like brambles and wouldn't be happy in a pot, don't know why) and on advice I planted in ericaceous compost and slow release fertliser. The blueberries that were green when i bought it have ripened and been e...

Sloes

Hello
I've made sloe gin and sloe vodka in the past (very nice!) but does anyone know of anything else to do with sloes like do they make good jam or jelly or compote etc? I got loads and still have some inthe freezer and it gets kind of expensive buying gin and vodka to use them!

Thanks

Re: Rubbish year for blackberries

I got enough for 6lbs jam within about a 5 foot stretch of brambles a couple of weeks ago - yum! The first time I made jam that didn't turn runny - the answer was to use your grandma's recipe  Keep meaning to go again but haven't got round to it - only a 5 min walk from my house as well. As ...

Re: Fishing for Crayfish

I saw the programme What to Eat Now with the crayfish and says that you need a licence, but then the internet tells me that a licence is needed to keep them, and other times says a trapping licence is needed and in some areas (mainly area not down south) you can't trap them at all - I'm confused! Al...

I'm lucky enough to live by the coast and used to go cockling when I was little, but my dad would put far too much pepper on them and put me off! Planning on going to see if there are any mussels about tomorrow - has anyone any tips which would save me hours trawling through the rock pools to find n...

Spinach

I'm on planting my third batch of spinach this year, but the first done haven't done so well. They look great up to about 5 leaves, then start getting scorched looking patches and a couple have gone completely crispy brown and given up the ghost entirely - why is this and what can I do? I keep them ...

New plot!

Hello, I'm new here and although I've had a couple of years growing veg, herbs and fruit in my back yard, I've never had a plot of ground to plant anything in. But recently a friend of mine has possible a corner of a field that I could use  - but is it too late in the season to prep it to gr...
