Re: First attempt at elderflower champagne - couple of quest
I'm trying this out myself this year. I left in its bucket for six days and then put it in bottles last Tuesday. It's very fizzy! I'm realeasing the pressure a few times a day at the minute. But I have a silly question: how do I know when it's actually alcoholic? (what I actually mean is what's the ...

Re: Why set the alarm clock?
That drives me mad as well. My friend has a really bad habit of doing that. When we shared a room when we were on holiday together, she hit the snooze button every ten minutes for two hours one morning! I woke up at the first one and just read until she finally got up! I'm the same as you, Julie, on...

Re: Substitute for baking beans - any ideas?
Thanks everyone, I'll try those ideas out.
I did actually use lentils or something once before and they sort of sunk into the pastry a bit and I had to dig them out. I'll give it another go, maybe there was something wrong with my pastry.

Substitute for baking beans - any ideas?
I really want some of those ceramic baking beans to hold down the pastry when blind baking it for a pie but I can't afford them. Any ideas for a cheap/free substitute? The only thing I thought of was nicking some smooth beach pebbles next time I'm down at the seaside and giving them a really good wa...

I wonder if there was the same trouble in Italy when Ferrari released the "Enzo"? Being named after the company's founder there has got to be a few of them about.

Re: How do I.... get the smell out of a rug?
Thanks very much for the replies everyone! I'm going to give the bicarbonate soda idea a whizz and then if that doesn't work I'll take it round to my neighbour's house and ask to soak it in their bath with biological washing powder and then if THAT fails I will buy some of that Nilodour stuff. I'll ...

How do I.... get the smell out of a rug?
Hey, The topic title pretty much says it all but here's the long version... In my area, there's a free bulk uplift by the council every Thursday morning so Wednesday night is a good time for a scavenge round the streets. This Wednesday I found a nice patterned rug that needed a bit of wash so I took...
