Sounds interesting. Can you remember what programme it was?
I am no adverse to eating insects if I'm honest. Much of the world eats insects on a regular basis.

Re: Books about living off the grid
I can highly recommend Alone in the wild by Dick Proenneke
There is a film about and by him as well. You can probably find it on you tube
I used to live in Norway many years ago. Beautiful country and I miss it very much

Re: Tell me what a self sufficientish lifestyle is
I think what unites us on this forum is a realisation that we are being sold a lie by the powers that be, the media and the ad men about the kind of life we need to be living to be considered a normal person. We have realised that we don't need to keep upsizing our house and be forever in debt or ha...

Re: Aquaponics?
That is why we are doing it at our allotment because we are of no fixed abode we have no garden at all so an allotment is our only hope for growing food and building my projects
You can build very small aquaponics systems that fit on a table top.

DC motor vertical axis wind turbine?
Hi All I have been promised a decent size 24volt DC motor from a mobility scooter and I would like to build a wind turbine using it. I want to build a VAW turbine because it will be less conspicuous than a conventional turbine and I don't have to worry about slip rings etc. Has anyone built one of t...

Re: Someone say something
Maybe we need to get a core group of us to try and put at least one new thread up a day and also try to then comment on others posts.
It is always easier to get involved if there are lots of new posts every time you visit the forum

Re: Aquaponics?
Well we are well on the way to building our first aquaponics system. We have buried the IBC in the ground and placed the grow bed on top. The fish tank is full of water and I am experimenting with a U siphon design at the moment which will allow the grow bed to drain fully I tried to upload a photo ...

We all need to start putting more effort into keeping this forum alive. It would be a shame to see it disappear.

Re: Ben Fogles...New lives in The Wild UK
I have seen two of the UK ones so far and both were inspirational to be honest Emma is a pioneer to be sure and I don't think many people in this country could live like that and be happy. It is my plan to build a low impact roundhouse and live in a simple way but we will have a few more facilities ...
