Re: musical instruments - any trombone players on here?
Hmmmm.. Scrunched up newspaper could deaden the sound and interfere with the development of sound production. The only alternative is the silent brass mute, but I know this is expensive when you don't know whether he will continue to play, or might get on better on a different instrument. It is very...

Re: I'm So Unhappy!
Hi, Thanks for your good wishes. My MP and the local MEP are very concerned about the treatment of my son and are making urgent representations to ministers. I am on automatic pilot at the moment. Can't concentrate on anything. A trip to London is being arranged so we can all descend on the Hungaria...

Re: Hospitalised Dog
Oh your poor doggy! That sounds a very painful condition and Collies are so active as well! It is a fact that pets become part of the family and it is natural to worry about them and miss them when they are ill and have to be away from you. It shows what a loving owner you are. I hope she makes a sw...

I'm So Unhappy!
I'm sitting here in tears. My eldest son, Jason, and his partner Mike are being extradited to Hungary today, accused of fraud! I'm too upset to explain it here but if you read the blog http://www.freemikeandjason.co.uk you will see why I am so upset. I've even been doing housework to keep myself bus...

Re: what does gone off flour taste like?
If stored properly flour will keep for years, but it can smell musty if it hasn't been stored well.. I ignore sell by dates. As Shirley said, your nose is the best indicator of something being useable! If it smells musty it could have been a bit damp. I always store mine in an airtight container. It...

Re: Brits. - don't forget to put your clocks back an hour.
It's to confuse farm animals, and my middle son! Cows don't know the clocks have gone back, only that it is time for milking! My son didn't realise his mobile phone was set to automatically change! It was just as well I phoned him this morning or he would have been late for work! He was about to put...

Re: 5 year olds and farm animals and E. coli
I have been saying this all along. Children have not been allowed to build up their immunity and then, when they go out any problems are blamed on someone else. These farmers are being put out of business by thoughtless people who have spotless houses and spotless children but have forgotten about t...

Re: Most unusual wine
When I married my first husband in 1971 there was some wedding cake left, so my brother made wine from that.
It sounded odd at the time, but logical really as it contained so much fruit. I had made the cake myself. The wine was delicious.

Re: Basic Manners
I have such a long list of incidents where people have been rude by not saying thankyou or acknowledging my courtesy :angryfire: that I won't start to rant about it. It would go on for too long! What has happened to common courtesy? So many only seem to be thinking only of themselves and not conside...

Re: Plying and measuring
Measuring wraps per inch would tell you what 'ply' yarn you have produced and then you would know by weight whether you have the correct amount for a pattern. Simply wind your yarn round a ruler for one inch and count the number of wraps. The higher the number of wraps, the finer the yarn. My husban...

Re: Help me with my roast potatoes.
It is always said that floury potatoes are best for roasting or baking, but I really hate floury potatoes. I find them too dry but my husband loves them. Waxy potatoes for me.

Cloudy here. Couldn't see a thing!
It was the second day of the fireworks competition
this evening as well. Hope the cloud didn't spoil it too much.
Reminds me of the eclipse 10 years ago. We all went
up to the Hoe and had to watch on a screen because
the clouds obliterated everything!
