Re: We will try to ID your mushrooms here

What do y'all think about this? I thought I'd finally found some Wood Hedgehogs ( Hydnum repandum ) but when I turned them over they looked more like Terracotta's ( Hydnum rufuscens ). I thought they were Woods because of the colour, but everything else (stem thickness, gills not going down stem) sa...

Re: Help with geothermal underfloor heating

Not what I wanted to hear but it is what I expected! I think the pipework is vertical.

I guess we just need to get out. Anyone want to sell a smallholding in South Wales!?

Help with geothermal underfloor heating

I'm not sure this is the best place to ask about this but I don't really know where else to go. We live in a rented barn conversion. The landlords had the "foresight" to put in geothermal underfloor heating....... but it's crap. It is incredibly expensive and doesn't work (January we spent...

Dryads Saddle?

(I'm surprised this section has been inactive since November 2009! Has no-one found any mushrooms this year or is everyone supremely confident in their i.d. skills?) I found these today. I am pretty sure they are dryads saddle but my wife is skeptical. Win this one for me ish'ers; are these dryads s...

Most "money-saving" vegetable

Greetings ish'ers I have been pondering this question thought it likely some of you will also have considered it. Which vegetable, in your opinion, offers the biggest saving when grown at home vs purchased in the shops. Lets assume you're both growing and buying organically. My current best guess is...

Re: Chickens; ex-batt or not?

Well, let me clarify. We are not planning on getting chickens just to eat. We want eggs and I am very attached to the idea of providing a home for rescused battery chickens. But it bothers me that, in a free market, the farmer is going to sell to the highest bidder. If people like me offer a higher ...

Re: Dydd da from Carmarthenshire

Thanks for all the welcomes folks! Any of you locals able to point me in the very general direction of a location that may at some point contain Boletus edulis and/or Cantharellus cibarius ..........? :help: (I know, it's cheeky, but I burned holes in my feet looking this weekend. Not even a sniff.....

Re: OK, here's one........

Thanks (again!).

Very much looking forward to the arrival of Rogers. There's so much woodland round here that have to contain boletus and cantharellus in there somewhere!

Seems like it's still a little early tho.

Re: OK, here's one........

Great, thanks! Shame it's not edible. OK, here's one more. These were everywhere . I apologise in advance if they're common and/or uninteresting, but I have no means of identifying them as our copy of Rogers is still in the post! http://i43.photobucket.com/albums/e374/NB32/P9060692.jpg http://i43.ph...

OK, here's one........

Found this growing on (I think) dead Silver Birch. Looks like a bracket but flesh is soft. Dense tho', very meaty. Older looking specimens looked darker and more dilapidated. This one looks so....... tasty Top. Is pale brown. http://i43.photobucket.com/albums/e374/NB32/P9060696.jpg Bottom. Creamy wh...

Chickens; ex-batt or not?

Hi. I'm in the process of preparing a chicken coop and am looking around for a place to get chickens. They will be both for egg-laying and, eventually, chicken pie. I originally thought of getting ex-batts, but the more I think about it, the less I like it. I strongly dislike battery-farming and fee...

Re: Hunting Razor Clams

Unfortunately we were a little lax with the purging and so there was still a lot of sand inside. We pretty much ate anything that wasn't loaded with sand. The foot formed the majority of it. What we didn't eat I used for fishing bait the next day. As far as I know, there is no real season for razor ...
