Re: Why are 'you' self-sufficient-ish?

My lightbulb moment happened about 15 years ago when I went to visit a friend in London. We were walking down the street and passed a stall selling fruit & vegetables, and in amongst the usual suspects was a pile of yellow courgettes. Green courgettes were rare enough where I was living at the t...

Re: Maca - anyone tried to grow this?

Hi,

Yes, I spotted that forum discussion, it's the only info I've seen so far on growing in the UK. Thanks for posting it (or I'd have never found it again!)
Will give them a go next year, and post if I get any results!

Maca - anyone tried to grow this?

Has anyone here ever tried to grow Maca (Lepidium meyenii)?
All I know is what Wikipedia has to say (and I'm always a bit wary of wikiwisdom, it being a giant hive mind with some pockets of idiocy)

So any advice/warnings would be very appreciated!

Re: Hi from CHeshire

Hello & welcome!

I really recommend having a go at making cider, it's pretty simple, very messy & a lot of fun (as is drinking the results!)

Re: Strange fruit

Well I cut through one crossways today, and it has a star, so it looks like its a crabapple (I've never seen a red crabapple before!)

thanks for all the advice!

Re: Strange fruit

Hi Jampot! When I first saw the fruits I thought they looked like rosehips, as there remains of the flowers (style, stamen, whatever-it-was) were still on the end, though they seem to have fallen off now. I seem to recall crabapples having 5 seeds in a star shape when cut across the middle, like a r...

Strange fruit

I moved into a new place in North Lincs a couple of months ago, and there is a tree (not a giant tree, it's the same height as the wild cherry next to it) planted just out front on the roadside that for the life of me I can't identify. It has been in fruit throughout september, and they have been dr...

Hello!

thank you, it was roasted with a bit of black pepper & a dill. It was supposed to go into a recipe, but was eaten straight out of the baking tray instead!

Hello from North Lincolnshire!

Hello! I've been an avid reader of The Ish for the best part of a year now, but have only just gotten around to signing up here (I'm slow but I get there eventually) I've recently moved to North Lincolnshire, UK (from Sheffield, so not that much of a migration, more of a shuffle really) for a life o...
