Hot Bed experiment - waddaya think ?

Inspired by the hotbed guy on Gardeners World and talk on here, I have been gathering stuff to make a sort of hotbed as an experiment. Would appreciate any comments, advice etc.... Plan is based on builders ton bag, lined on sides and base with several layers of cardboard to help retain heat. Got a ...

Re: Buying adjoining land - Legal costs ?

Ok, that pretty much knocks that idea on the head. Way too much hassle. It is a tiny slice of land, just a shame to see it wasted and filled with rubbish rather than holding a couple more fruit bushes and various other goodies. Not like I dont have enough to do already !

Buying adjoining land - Legal costs ?

Has anyone brought a slice/chunk/piece of adjoining land to their property ? I am wondering about talking to one of my neighbours about a slice [literally pie shaped slice] of land, probably less than 15m2 that they use for dumping branches and clippings onto. It would just make my veggie patch a 'b...

Indeed, think my 'buy British/local' ethos might get a little stretched with this one.

Re: views on permaculture courses

I would love to do one, but time and ££ make it practically impossible. Till that magic day I am hitting up my library and occasionally buying the books, surfing the many videos on internet and working it out as I go along. Might try and do an intro day over the summer, as much to meet people who ar...

Re: Cycling. Will I get better at it?

Stick with it, after that long off anything will be difficult at first, especially with changes in traffic etc. Make sure your bike is serviced, fits you and is running well, wear a helmet, join a friend. How about trying a ride on a rails to trails or some sort of cycle path ? no traffic to worry a...

Recipe alternatives

So I just died and went to heaven :dontknow: Used all the eggs making banana bread [bananas were reduced in Co op] and chocolate brownies  . Then I remembered I had 2 loaves of [reduced in Co op] bread that needed to be made into Bread and Butter pudding. What to do ? :study: Quick google sea...

Re: Herman the German Friendship cake

I have been keeping a Herman for a month or so now; keeping the mixture fed and ticking over, not particularly accurate on timing of feedings etc, but it is doing well. :drunken: I find the mixture is best just split 3 ways rather than 4, 2 cakes every week or so plus another one 'brewing'. Added al...

Bamboo ?

Anyone grow bamboo for use in garden ? either to eat or for the canes ? Thinking of trying some but a bit nervous as it can be pretty invasive. Altho I dont really have any space for it, so it will likely end up stuck in a corner or more likely in an ole leaky trug bucket. Any recommendations on var...

You wont be dissapointed ! I am going to start another batch soon for the summer. It is easy to drink and cheap to make, few lemons, sugar and yeast, and good for a giggle. Getting requests here !
