New chooks and the cold??

Hi, just wanting some opinions! We lost one of our hens a few weeks ago now and the children are really keen to get some more as we know only have 2 left. My question though is.... Is this a good time to introduce new hens when their spending so much time 'indoors' or might it be better to wait till...

Re: when do your chooks go inside?

My girls will stay out quite late , I've got fed up of waiting for them recently so have started shutting them into the run attached to the house and leaving the actual house open - saves a lot of noise in the morning too when they get up before me  That said our garden it completely enclosed -...

Re: How Do You Like Your Meat?

Ohhh, good question!! Like most people here I'm on the well cooked side for pork and chicken, I don't eat fish at all (allergies!) so can't comment there but when It comes to red meat.... I would have to say I like it on the raw side - steak and bacon are amazing totally raw, if it's a good cut!!! I...

Re: Will Mr/Ms Average please step forward...

:angryfire: I think someone at the BBC wants a pay rise, so they came up with this.... Lol that does seem likely  - I know plenty of people that earn way less than that and certainly aren't struggling! It's not far off our families yearly income - but we do so much with it... There are ...

Re: Restless Leg Syndrome?

I have had this problem for a number of years now :( I was told that it was a lack of Salt in my diet which I'd cut back on due to blood pressure and family history of heart disease. Anyhow I've never found a drug or supplement that worked and Ive tried quite a few (I am awake now as legs want to be...

Re: Difficult teenagers

So we have a simple rule - if I pay for it you put up with it - if you don' like it buy it yourself. That's how it works in my house too! My boys are 10 and 8 - I did the explanations, I did the "looks there's lots of things here you DO like", I've tried the lot and ended up with 'you can...

Re: drying clothes and nappies?

My 3 are out of nappies now, but I found that organisation really is the key - it's amazing what you can stick where, I did find drying nappies difficult in the depths of a damp winter so I got a heated towel rail in a small room and that did the trick - it's also much more economical to run than a ...

That's what I do to Fee Fairy, takes a little more time than the recycle option, but much more satisfying

Re: 101 Uses for Vodka!

Vodka is good for colds - mixed with some warm blackcurrent!! (well in my house anyway) There is also the Vodka Melon... 1. Take a water melon and cut a small (shot glass sized) hole in the skin and put to one side 2. pour as much vodka into the melon as will soak in 3. replace the cut skin in the w...

Re: question for crocheters/knitters

lol! If you're quite dextrous you could try doing the knitting/crocheting with cotton gloves on? I've also heard that freezing it first can make it easier to work with - I'm looking to make a shopping bag that I've seen a pattern for - but maybe I won't  How did the slippers turn out? x
