Re: About to expire from excitement
How exciting! and inspiring, too... My mum used to wear headscarves because the wind gave her earache, and she ended up with quite a collection, which I've inherited. They sit at the back of the wardrobe and I've been wondering what to do with them... I love your blog, too. I've just signed up to fo...

Re: TV licencing bloke calls...
With respect, Zech, and not wishing to be at all argumentative, I find those phrases very irritating - "I need this for whatever" or "I need my car" or some such. What did they do before? What will they do when the mobile network fails or power goes or fuel gets scarce, which th...

Re: Buy nothing new for a year challenge
I'd like to give this a go - lack of money makes it fairly necessary. I'm interested in how people decide what's excluded, though. I should be able to do without new clothes (apart from underwear, which everyone seems to agree is excluded), but I will need shoes - I hope that's OK as I don't know ho...

Re: ARRRGH Children please please give me advice!
Obviously I'm speaking from a position of ignorance as I don't have children, but I think that using threats you don't intend to carry out is a dangerous route to take. It just teaches your kids that you don't always mean what you say. I was smacked occasionally as a child, never in a momentary loss...

Hello Annette! I don't know anything about horse manure for heating - I'd rather put it on the garden. We're planning to switch over to wood/solar heating and, prompted by my dad's cynicism - "You won't save any money doing that" - I worked out the payback times. Even if we manage t...

Re: home made moisturiser recipe?? :)
I've tried this recipe (ignoring the hysterical anti-chemical rant at the beginning): http://www.mookychick.co.uk/body/make_your_own_moisturizer.php When I say I've tried it, you should understand I haven't followed it exactly - I'm not very good at following recipes. For a start, it seemed to have ...

Re: Hello from Wales
Thanks for the lovely welcome, everyone
We are indeed living the dream, though it remains to be seen whether we can make it work. It's encouraging to hear from MuddyWitch (great name, btw. Made me wish I'd thought of it first!) that what we're aiming for is possible.

Re: TV licencing bloke calls...
Wandering off-topic, do we have any other technophobes here who eschew the 'benefits' of electronic gadgetry (barring the computer of course...if we are allowed one advanced technology, it has to be that)? I wouldn't call myself a technophobe - I love technology - but I don't like using electricity...

Re: TV licencing bloke calls...
Getting rid of the tv must be the first step in self-sufficientism. What do you think? This struck a chord with me, as we are embarking on a self-sufficientish project, including leaving jobs and moving house. We sold our TV just before moving, mainly because it's big and heavy and there's not much...

Hello everyone! I've been lurking here a while, picking up tips and learning interesting things, and think it's about time I signed up, introduced myself and joined in. You lot seem like a bunch of people I'd like to hang out with  OK, here goes: I'm Rachel and I've been dreaming of liv...
