I keep saying to Mum she should dig up the rest of the lawn but I think there will be veg plot creep rather then removing the lawn in one fell swoop.
It does make me wonder, how many other newbies are out there, is this a growing trend?

Re: What Ishy things are you grateful for this week?
Mr. QB.
I've been poorly lately and it's highlighted how wonderful it is to have a tractor/wagon/crane to hand. He's just settled down and done all the heavy and hard work letting me confine myself to dibbing, harvesting and other such gentle tasks.
Thank you Mr. QB, wifely loves you.

Re: School dinners
Good food can be cooked on site. I'm lucky enough to have work canteen and we get a salad bar, baked potoatoes, two meat options, a veggie option, soup, hot veg, pudding and sarnes. We also have cooked breakfast everyday. Our chef does have a very tight budget and it does show in the occasional odd ...

Well Done
I would like to publicly say well done to my Mum and step dad. My Mum has serious mobility problems and my step dad is hugely busy working, neither of them are particularlly vegtable gardening or ish minded. However this year they have cleaned out the greenhouse previously used for storage and plant...

Re: Food prices to double
Those of us wealthy enough to have access to the internet will be fine. It's those poor people already living in marginal enviroments who will suffer themost. I feel partly responsible as I do waste and I do use a car, central heating etc. If anyone has ideas of how to help it would good.

Re: Asparagus confusion! Help please!
Hello, Mr. QB grows asparagus and this is his advice: - What variety do you have? Conifers collosus (please read that phoentically) produces thick tall spears, it's also one of the most abundant varieties on sale. Other varieties can produce thinner spears - Next year cut the stems while they're a h...

Rhubarb to control blackfly.
Hello, An old chap on the allotment told me about this the other day so I thought I'd pass it on. When you trim the rhubarb leaves off the stems drop the leaves in a bucket of water. Leave the leaf and water mix till the leaves have rotted and you have slime left. If there are any chunks left seive ...

Re: Salt Beans/
Hello,
I'd plum for the not enough salt option, especially if things got watery. The beans often shrink so I find I always need to top up with more salt the next morning. Sometimes the shrinkage is so great I can top up the salt layer, add another layer of beans and then a final salt layer.

Re: Bee Keeping
If not your local bee keeping association some local agricultural colleges do courses. This is how Mr. QB and I learnt, we did a theoretical course in the winter and the practical course in the summer. One of our teachers was a young man who wanted to impress the ladies on the course so he used to o...

I do wonder if that family is more the norm accross the country though. Especially here in affluent Surrey I think there are a lot of families like that. I'll be watching next week for more scrimptin tips.

Re: How wet should compost be?
There are specific types of worms that are good. You want the ones which when you gently stretch them out are stripey. I think they're called tiger worms or something like that. Really red worms like you get in well rotted manure are also good.

Know a good charcoal making course
Mr. QB is dead keen to learn how to make charcoal and as his birthday is coming up I'd like to get him a course. Has anyone here attended a course or does anyone know of a reputable organisation offering such courses? I've found a few on the 'tinerweb but I don't know how to judge between the differ...

They are two and you are one.
You've also shown commitment for two months, you never know they could burn out and give up.
