Old water...{RESOLVED}

Hi
On our allotment is an old freezer (chest) chock-full of water. Obviously the water is still, but there are boatman etc in it.

We want to get rid of it because it is fugly - do you think that we could use the water on the allotment?

Cheers :)

Re: Don't buy this product...

yupper - it was the huge peat-free (i think purple) bag.

Their non-peat-free is great.

I obviously would have preferred peat-free but hey... it was crap!

Never mind... next year we will hopefully have a good supply of our own.

Re: Don't buy this product...

Hi Just a wee "heads-up".B&Q are selling a peat-free compost in a purple bag; do NOT buy! It has close to zero capillary-action and rots in the bottom of the pot; it is either so dry it sound hollow when knocked, or, so wet that it stinks of rot. The green coloured bag, however, got a...

This works well for weeding...

Hey folks :thumbright: You probably already know this - but I'll share just in case. Our allotment is, apart from where we've prepared, full of weeds like couch, sticky grass etc. We have had next to no rain in April and as you all know that makes digging even just 1 spit deep VERY hard work, so wec...

Thankyou all.

I still have plenty left, so, I think I will try all of the above methods!

First year is our experimental year.

Spuds - will this work?

Hi all Starting to put maincrop in now, and, wondered if it would be possible, after digging the trenches, to just put the upturned sods in the trench on top of the taters? In order to save myself a bit of digging? The allotment is in its first year so V-weedy :flower: Would appreciate any input :ch...

Re: weeds, compost and the odds

As long as the "weed" has not gone to seed (post-flower) it is fine to compost.
We compost anything that is green and in the wrong place.
Also - no plant can survive constantly having its head cut off to ground level - tedious? yes - but effective in the long term.
