Become A Farmer With The National Trust

The national trust are running a new project, where they are inviting 10,000 members of the public to run a farm for a year from the comfort of their own home. The subscription is £30 for a year and you will get to vote in choosing what livestock and crops the farm has, how it's managed and used. ht...

Re: Livestock and 'good samaritans'

I received an email back saying they've rehomed one lamb so only have one left. I personally don't believe in keeping livestock in a solitary environment. Added to that they wouldn't answer any of my questions about registrations and history of the animal and I have had to take a step back. Can't he...

Re: Cloth Nappies for dummies please!

I wrote a review on a few brands of cloth nappies once upon a time for a forum, if it helps..... I have several different types of nappy in my 'stash', so thought I would write a review on how I find them. I'll be reviewing: Mothercare Smart Nappies Bambino Mio Tot Bot Bamboozles Blueberry One Size ...

Re: Livestock and 'good samaritans'

Apparently they are 'around a few months old and always crying. They get two bottles a day one at night, one in the morning.' I imagine they are younger than a few months if they have only just been picked up from a farmer, and I'd cry too if I was hungry! I've taken in dogs, cats, horses and small ...

Livestock and 'good samaritans'

I seem to be known in my area for taking in animals, which is fine as I love having them. However I have been contacted tonight by someone who is in desperate need of a home for two lambs. They found these lambs on a farm, orphaned, bought them and brought them back to a semi-detcahed house with a s...

Re: Chickens and gardens?

This is all brilliant advice, thank you all so much! Hubby is now on board with the idea after reading all your replies and us doing a bit of research. I'll keep you all updated but it will probably be a couple of months before I put things into motion. Just want to make sure the whole family is hap...

Re: Chickens and gardens?

Thanks for the response :) There is the option of moving them to my paddocks, but I would rather have them at home and more part of the family. The garden is about 1/4 of an acre. I do have a 30 foot long by 4 foot wide section of garden that runs down the side of the house which is a bit more tucke...

Chickens and gardens?

I have been hankering after having a few chickens for awhile now, and am trying to convince my less than enthusiastic husband. We have a very large, well fenced back garden but have been warned by a friend that chooks will wreck a garden. Now, when I say 'garden' we have a grass lawn. No flower beds...

Hello from the Scottish Highlands

Hello! Have been browsing looking for a good self-sufficiency forum and thought 'ish' probably describes what I want best! My name is Nic, I live in North Scotland and have a good sized back garden where I am currently trying to convince my husband that we need some chooks to fill it ;) I also have ...
