Re: Bike shed & Beer crates from Pallets

I thought I would complete the circle and post up my finished bike shed here - I finished it last summer but I've been so busy with my other projects (see website) that I hadn't got around to posting up the photos. Here it is in all it's glory. http://www.inglepingle.co.uk/forumpics/100_1078.jpg I a...

Re: Straw Bale Build - image intensive!

RE Hairline cracks in the lime render:

This is not unusual, and just happens as the render dries slowly. Limewash is recommended to help recoat the walls and help seal up any hairline cracks that open up. See if you can get some in your colour!

Re: Sourcing Clay Render for Internal Plastering

Hi Contadina, yes adobe is another phrase for it! I'm going to try and source the clay and then I'll have to get hold of the other materials to mix up a suitable mix for the plastering. Hopefully I've found someone - I can get hold of some 2" blocks of clay which I can soak down and use in my r...

Re: Sourcing Clay Render for Internal Plastering

A heavy session of googling has come up with this page, so I'll see what I can find and I'll post back when I move on with my project :-)

Re: Sourcing Clay Render for Internal Plastering

Thanks Gra. I did try looking for locally sourced clay, actually, but I don't think it's that readily available in South Wales! I might see if I can get hold of a trailer and find some near Bristol!! Lime is an option, but I've read into this fairly extensively, and would prefer clay, given the cost...

Sourcing Clay Render for Internal Plastering

Hello, I wonder if anyone can help me out with trying to source a supplier for the following. I am working on completing my straw bale building in my garden. It will be used for my general hobbies, but especially my drumming, since straw bale should dampen the sound more than my thin walls I share w...

Pallet Computer Desk!

I've just finished my first interior pallet project.
A new computer desk. Only cost me £10 for the glass top to make it all smooth for my keyboard and mouse!
Hope you all like it! Follow the link below to see the photos on my site.

Re: Green Roof Straw Bale Building in South Wales

Hey all, I thought I'd bump this post as I'm doing some volunteering in June, so I wanted to see if anyone was interested, you can come along and learn some foundation building techniques. I had a good volunteer weekend last week, and I'm going to do another one in early June (9th & 10th) to con...

Re: Green Roof Straw Bale Building in South Wales

I'm currently arranging a meeting with a structural engineer to figure this out - the span will be less than 6m as there will be an overhang either side probably 0.75m in length. I was looking at I-beams, but I'm waiting for this meeting to see if thats required. I'll be sure to post more on my blog...

Re: Bike shed & Beer crates from Pallets

Nice work Wulf! My woodworking is a combination of a helpful father and too much reading! Thanks for the notes: 1) My roof is sloped as much as yours, and probably just as deep, but I have used a waterproof lining to create a little pool of water at the bottom of the slope. This should feed moisture...

Re: Bike shed & Beer crates from Pallets

An update! I got the sides done today, and have the frame in place. The next step is to put a roof on it, which I can do next week, and it should be waterproof then! Here is one of the side panels http://a-king.com/images/100_0390small.jpg This the frame in place http://a-king.com/images/100_0393sma...

Re: Bike shed & Beer crates from Pallets

I found these instructions to be quite useful for the wood sizes. http://www.instructables.com/id/wooden-beer-crate/ Bear in mind that if your wood is thicker than 15mm, then you will need to cut longer sizes in some case. I used this design but modified it slightly to make the crates stackable. I'v...

Re: Bike shed & Beer crates from Pallets

Crickleymal - thats some amazing wood on offer there! I could do with some 6"x4" to get the frame of my shed built! As it is I think my dad has some 4x2 lying around which I am using. I got hold of an old double bed frame too, so that will be the roof structure sorted! @Potters Farm - a pa...
