Is this fire blight
Hi, I have some apple trees I planted about 13 years ago. Two of them Topaz and Winston have never really produced fruit of any great size, even if I thin them out they don't seem to do much. The Scotch Bridget was pretty good, but in the last couple of years, these three trees have been getting the...

Re: I seem to be back
Regarding my potatoes, I did make one mistake though. The cardboard was placed edge to edge and of course docks found their way through the cracks. Next time I will make a point of overlapping them. You can put down quite a thick covering of cardboard, it's a great way of getting rid of boxes. Even...

Re: I seem to be back
It has been a shocking year, long cold spring again, danger of frost until 31st May, it was touch and go, and just recently after very hot days, cold evenings with night temperatures of 7-10 c in the tunnels., it's nuts. Well, I think that's brilliant that I have finally won you over with the no dig...

Re: Slugs and Snails
I have now seen large colonies of leopard slugs in my garden, they are carnivorous and will prey on other slugs, since finding them in much larger numbers, the amount of small grey slugs has reduced considerably, not sure if that is due to the slugs or the cool spring we had but I tend to just remov...

If you preserve in oil, you still need to use something slightly acidic, I usually use balsamic vinegar

Re: I don't think I like Gooseberries
I wonder if the heat was to blame for that, they never really ripened properly, we went from boiling hot to cold. I had two disasters, I over cooked the jam so it was stiff and pippy and put some in the oven to cook for a crumble and ended up at my gate talking to a neighbour and when I rushed in, i...

Re: I don't think I like Gooseberries
I picked them all off the bushes as the blackbirds were starting to eat the red ones, they were all just under ripe, they never actually ripened fully. I will make a crumble and see what happens. Thanks Flo

I don't think I like Gooseberries
I used to eat the gooseberries in my Nanny and Granddads garden and I remember liking them. Last year, I decided to plant my own bushes and got some red and yellow hinnonmaki. They grew really well, not as ripe sweet as they could have been but my fruit hasn't done well up here this year. I made som...

Sounds more like bruising from being badly handled
