What happened to everyone....

.....or is my computer playing up? :( Maybe you're all out doing stuff. I'm not...far too hot out there for me. Inside making chutneys and cordials, don't want to waste anything. Living on salads and goat products at the moment, can't be bothered with much else after a bit of preserving. Oh well. he...

Re: What has happened to this website?

I don't use facebook much for all the above reasons. It saddens me that people have to get nasty and also that, if you ask a question, it soon goes off topic and becomes irrelevent. There are some who have nothing to do here in BG but sit on a computer, getting drunk on cheap booze and seeing who th...

Re: Ideas for Eastern European vegetarian recipes please

Here in Bulgaria there are some nice traditional soups, but for Summer (temperatures in the forties at the moment) Tarator is a favourite. It's basically like a very thinned down tzatziki that most people are familiar with. So, yoghurt (I use our own goat yoghurt), minced garlic, finely diced cucumb...

Re: Seasonal food

I could do...if only everything flourished! But when a staple fails due to flipping mole crickets chomping on them....or chafers. My onions FAILED...devastated, i had over wintered go to seed, red and seed sown whites chomped and replacements didn't grow. Keeping fingers crossed that whatever it is ...

Re: What are you harvesting atm?

Today...masses of tomatoes, cucumber, french beans, broccoli, courgette, peppers, beetroot and potatoes. Had mash today cos that's what the Maris Bard said! Very nice. In temperatures hitting 40C we stay indoors after 10am so litres of courgette, pepper and tomato sauce made, mixed (yellow, red, gre...

Re: Sticky labels

I use the coarse wire scourers Ina, you would need a good bit of force to scratch glass with them, but use them with wasing up liquid just to be sure.

Re: Sticky labels

I use a knife to scrape off as much with the label on stubborn labels, then try the scourer and if it's still stubborn then neat washing up liquid. I do a lot as I sell a lot of jam and chutney and not many defeat me, though the ones that do I bin. We are lucky that we can easily get new lids for al...

Re: What has happened to this website?

Great for using up a glut of tomatoes, peppers and aubergines...which even if we didn't have (and don;t have aubergines this year) we will get by the bucketload from the neigbours later. A very useful staple packed full of veg for a quick meal.

Re: What has happened to this website?

Haha, Arctic it aint at the moment, quite the opposite. Temperatures are in the mid thirties C consistantly which is why I am here and not out there! The chooks are panting, the goats getting cross, dogs flat out and flies a b***** nuisance! But we have a plunge pool by day and air con by night...ne...

Re: What has happened to this website?

I check in most days and comment occasionally when there is a topic I can contribute to. But being in a different country with different climate, laws and customs it's hard to come up with something which might be pertinent to the other members, I ave to say though, being self sufficientish here is ...

Re: Choosing the simpler life with kids

We moved to Bulgaria for our simpler, debt free life in our fifties. But we have no kids. We live in a poor rural village (though better than most) and there are people with kids doing the same. Pluses for kids have to be the outdoor lifestyle and freedom they have here, and learning a different lan...
