Re: What are these berries (And nut)?!
Out here there is every fruit and nut you could possibly want growing on the sides of the roads and between fields, it's a forager's paradise. The gardens are all planted with fruit and nut trees too, though a lot of our's were chopped down by the previous owner. I have added a Bramley apple to the ...

Re: What are these berries (And nut)?!
Black rose hip, beech (I think), don't know thw pink berry, initially thought rowan but they are in bunches and the leaves are wrong. Then elderberry, last mahonia.
All edible except the pink one which I would say avoid if you don't know what it is. Google these for more info.

Re: Identification help
I've never tried a bullace, but they are simply a wild plum and possibly the same ones we get in abundance here in different colours so should taste like a plum if soft and ripe. If they are deliberately planted on a border l would say they are probably damsons. You wouldn't want to eat them raw but...

I do. I drop the quarters into sterilised jars and pour over hot sugar syrup, cover and waterbath for half an hour. They're lovely.

Re: Identification help
The first one looks like a cotoneaster of some kind (try google images) if so, good for birds but not sure about humans, and the second either bullace or damson, hard to tell from a photo for me. Someone will know.

I do, I try to update at least twice a week as I get bored of blogs that leave months between posts. I'm very much an amateur in blogging and ishness.

Re: Preserving fruit juice
Tosca - in Bulgaria they seem to have much better preserving kit than in the UK coz everyone does it!... wish I could get those cheap one-shot lids that they use... so don't they have specialist juice-preserving methods over there? They must do Dave as we were given some home made stuff recently wh...

Re: Chilis (I know - chilis again!)
We don't use chilli much, but have a dozen plants in the garden....because we can. I think I might try overwintering a few so I don't have to sow seed and get far too many again. OH wanted them because they are an unusual shape  As to what type they are, well, there seems to be an argument abo...

Re: We made it in Bulgaria
I started making chutney in spring with left over bottled tomatoes when someone asked for some. I started selling it at car boot sales and it has snowballed. Both British and Bulgarians buy it, as well as the occasional Dutch and Asian. It's a bit addictive but the last thing I want to do is start w...

Re: Dried tomatoes
I'm going to have a go too, I am running out of shelf space to store the dozens of tomatoes I've processed. I must resist panting too many next year.
I only have the round one but will see what happens. It will have to wait till the watermelon is done...now that is a revelation!

Re: Preserving fruit juice
Thanks for all that info, I've been meaning to look up this very same subject. Presumably you can do any juice the same way? I will probably use large screw jars with new lids as this is what I have.
And a water bath as I do have a pan deep enough and a gas ring outside to fit it on.

Re: Where is everyone?New post section perhaps?
Hi Uller, I slowed right down on here for the same reason, got fed up of trying to log in.
I had been reading your blog up until you stalled in December but I see I have some catching up to do while I am confined to the house making chutney.
