Re: Esse lionheart & hot water
I'm not sure if you can 'reconvert' as it were, but the oil to S/F is relatively easy.BTW most people put a shovel full of Anthracite on them to keep them in at night.

Re: Chickens and winter
At a guess,I'd say youngish hens and mildish winters. And obviously great husbandry etc.etc...Black rocks are also remarkably hardy.Just be pleased!!

Re: Taking a year off
From my personal experience, the 'relief of not having to care 24/7 for stock very quickly becomes a feeling of abject loss. It's 2 years + since we said goodbye to the pigs (and goats) and now I only think about them 4 or 5 times a day. You'll want them back as soon as .

I don't have one in our present house ,but have had both Rayburns and Agas. You're 100% correct about the new things:they arrive flat-packed! Far better ,and far cheaper, buy a gas or oil rayburn 2nd hand ,say £3-4 hundred and convert it to multi-fuel,all bits available on line.

Re: Fishing
Lure fishing from the cliffs must be fun,but for me,if you want to catch reliably you need to find depth. So a pier,or a boat.If I lived near the coast I'd have a boat before I bought a car.S

Re: Fishing
The last time I fished the Tay,30 odd years ago,I used pieces of kipper on a single hook with a rolling leger.Took loads of flounder.I love oily fish as bait,or buy the oil and paint your lob. These days I live many miles from the sea,so I have to know the mackerel will be running before I fish for ...

Re: 101 uses for little bits of string
If you wrap several bits tied together it will not only hold up your trousers, but it's readily available,i.e. just cut off a bit as and when you need it.Been doing this with baler twine since I was a kid.

Re: Step overs
DND,these are pears so they're on pixy.Apples want to be on M27. For all you Salty Dogs, they are a good idea,a 3ft shelter would see them right. I start them in 10 lt containers for 2-3 years,as I find it easiest to deal with,I'll plant out in later years. BTW you can grow apples in coastal areas,th...

Step overs
New experiment creating stepovers by cutting the leader and training 2 good sideshoots, rather than my preferred, bend the leader over method.....Only time will tell.....

Doofa,I've had 5 stoves,3 were Morso. They are streets ahead of anything else I've ever experienced. The larger ones,Squirrel upwards, can run backboilers.

Re: Poorly Goats slowing down
Andy.We kept goats for years, here's a few ideas. 1)What are they grazing near? Laburnum?Laurel?Ragwort? The adults might be strong enough to get over any minor toxin. 2)Do they have mineral licks? They need them especially as youngsters 3)How old are you weaning them at? If this keeps happening, and y...
