Woodstove cookery book
Forum members may recall that some months ago, Wombat very generously sent me his spare copy of the Woodstove Cookery Book. Having read it several times and copied the recipes into my own little cook's notebook, I feel it right to pass the book on to someone else - recycling in its best sense, and o...

Allthough I feel desperately sad for both the family and the child herself, as well as all children who suffer, I think the media circus is ALREADY having an adverse effect. I am sure that I am not the only one whose eyes now glaze over, whose hearing tunes the reports out and who skips over any fur...

peg loom
Anybody got any plans/drawings/diagrams of how to make a simple peg loom for home use? I have managed to accumulate loads of old curtains, duvet covers and the like and simply can't bear to throw them all away. I'd really like to make those rag rugs that are simply strips of fabric woven on a loom b...

What about adding some dwarf french bean plants around the edge of the pan. They would tumble over quite prettily plus give you food into the bargain. Alternatively, in the cistern, a few dwarf sweet peas for colour, scent and cut flowers for the house. thefriarandme - you need to go a bit carefully...

Summer is definitely coming
Just seen the first swallow of the year, sitting on a telephone wire having a good preen. I got the binoculars onto it but then it flew right over our garden and there was no mistaking it.
I only ever believe winter is truly at an end when I see the swallows arrive. Anybody else seen one yet?

This same scenario happened to me too, in September 2001, when I had recently moved from the south to Lincolnshire. I had never been in a Matalan store before but I had a lot of money to spend completely re-equipping a new house. Like Muddypause, I was in turns astounded, embarassed and finally furi...

The OP comments got me thinking and I suddenly developed a real 'yen' to obtain one - maybe because it triggered off memories of my mother and aunt gaily pedalling along making curtains, dungarees for us kids etc. Finally got one on ebay for £40. The casing is sound though a bit scruffy but the mac...
