Re: Bumblebee Nests

They didn't seem to mind the varnish or stain on my front door when they ate all the way through that. They seem to love the deck stain as well. I wouldn't encourage mason bees if you live in a wood sided home.

Re: The UK is in Recesssion

Is your govt. doing an 800+ million dollar (pound) stimulus package? It's interesting how the different countries view and handle it. I think we need to let it run its course, but it will be a very painful process. These bogus stimulus packages just seem to prolong the pain and in the end help the l...

Re: The elephant in the room... AKA... the American Election

No kidding! What we have are politicians elected by the media. There were several candidates whose supporters had to send signed petitions to the news networks just so their candidate would be allowed to participate in the general debates! If the media refuses to report on a candidate, that candida...

Re: The UK is in Recesssion

If it hits you like it hit us (US), you'll feel it in food prices and gas first. Pensioners and retirees have lost money hand over fist. Public services will be hit, likes roads, schools, welfare. When welfare gets hit it gets nasty. You can't sell a house here, though they say it's a buyers market....

Re: The elephant in the room... AKA... the American Election

I'm white 40+ and cynical. I would have voted for Obama I'm 40+ and cynical too. I am also hopeful, but I know repeatedly saying "hope and change" won't necessarily bring about change. I think its about time a black person was president. also about time a woman was too.... Isn't it also t...

Re: What's the difference between frugal & tight?

He's not frugal, he's just plain mean!

We don't do rounds here in the States either. I used to waitress in a bar in DC, and maybe someone would buy a round of shots, but that was not the rule. Depended on how drunk and young they were. :drunken:

Re: The elephant in the room... AKA... the American Election

Seeing as how parts of his acceptance speech and Bush's were similar (there were at least 6 instances where just a few words turned around) doesn't say much for him, except he is one excellent speaker. The man can surely give a good speech. I am way over the whole black thing. He makes no pains at a...

American Schools

I absolutely feel for anyone who has a child with disabilities. My niece is severely disabled and life is a constant struggle for her. That being said.... Not all teachers are trained in dealing with special needs children. When you put a special needs child in a "regular" class with a &qu...

My neighbor has hives. He says refined sugar is a major no-no. He leaves the supers (?) out and lets the bees clean up what's left after he has harvested what he uses. Maybe an organic molases, as it is not overly processed? Just a thought.

I have a constant supply of bees at the rosemary bush. They also seem to like the Sweet Williams and holly bushes. It's dry and hot here so that may make a difference.

Well, guess what was on the national news last night  . Costco's CEO did not necessarily say that rationing was being instated, but that he was noticing people buying large quantities of staples. He did not want to cause a rush or panic though. I went to Walmart yesterday to get some grocerie...

Isn't a verruca the same as a wart. I would think so, but I'm no doctor. I just play one on the internet

It's not so much scaremongering as it is being uninformed. I'd rather be informed so I can prepare better for situations. Gardening is just meditative for me so I'd do it anyway.

I do love this forum and all the information so freely shared. The comeraderie (?) is the best laugh I have all day!

Seeing as how I live in the states this is news to me! Prices have jumped pretty dramatically, but I have yet to see rations. We have trucker strikes due to gas prices, that aught to send prices higher. I fear things are going to get worse, though I have not "stockpiled" anything. I joined...

Warts

My son had a horrible case of plantars warts on his feet. We did all the chemical things, even had them frozen and they still came back. We used the inside of the banana peel bandaged on his feet over night, every night for about 2 weeks. They were gone and never came back. These things were like mo...
