Re: Has anyone made their own stair gate?
We had one made from MDF. Wooden posts joined to one wall and one newell post then a small bolt half way down . It was basically just a solid gate but kept the little ones from going downstairs. We also had gates between rooms. 2 strips of wood on either side of the door frame acted as a slot and th...

Re: Pros & cons of home educating

One got an A, B, C the other got A,A,B As far as socialising is concerned, it is easy enough to find social activities for kids even when they don...

Re: Selfsufficientish bible with discount from an eco indie shop
My daughter bought it for me for my birthday on Saturday.
It an excellent read!
I really like the graphics too,in the style of the website.
Its going on my self sufficient books shelf along with John Seymour.
Another book to pour over on winter evenings.

Re: What have you found lately?
Golly you lot have been busy whilst I was gone! I thought I would boast about my new out-of-the-rubbish laptop. It is running on a linux (teen puppy) external installation to my mp3 player as it has no hard drive of its own . We were at the university a couple of week ago to collect the boy and it w...

Some phones that can use wifi can use 'fring' which is a sort of go-between for skype and similar. If your phone is set up to use the internet it will work also. The receiving phone must be able to receive skype(I assume via the use of fring) or it can be used to ring pc's running skype. Skype is al...

My daughter was a bit like that about losing and one thing we used was games where it doesnt rely on age or skill (eg snakes and ladders). Also saying that she wasn't old enough for a game and had better sit this one out usually ended in her playing and being 'grown up' about not always winning. The...

Please do post on here once in a while. I often pop in for a read even though I don't post myself very o...

Golly bad luck stonehead. Can you not find a replacement engine? A few years ago (well about 18) our engine died and OH did a search for a second hand replacement using some sort of phone through hotline. We had to get FIL to fetch it in his car and a garage mechanic put it in but at least we had a ...

My tomatoes are probably the most prolific crop this year.I sowed loads and planted what I thought were the best ones in the greenhouse. They got badly burnt in the heat but did still produce fruit. However the remainder of the plants (about 16 plants) were planted out to take their chances and have...

That was one reason we didnt home ed from the start. I was on the lookout for part time work to fit in with the kids school hours. I did a job for 6 months and it was so expensive in terms of clothes and not having time to shop around for groceries ,cook from scratch etc that we were better off when...
