How To Survive A Recession e-book

I came across this e-book. It's very apt for the times we find ourselves in, especially those of us who live in Ireland! :angry8: :angry8: It's a very interesting read. Very well written in a chatty style. It gives some great tips and advice. I especially like the section on skip-diving...I'd love t...

Re: Self sufficientish Toilet Paper

Mmmmmm...sphagnum moss...like cleaning your bum with an angel's wing comfort wise I would imagine...but here's the rub (if you'll pardon the expression) - You'd have to be mightily sure that there were no hidden insects in that moss, especially ones with a bite, sting or pincers. Sphagnum moss plain...

Re: Self sufficientish Toilet Paper

This thread really made me laugh  It appeals to my advanced sense of toilet humour. Now I've used some fairly industrial strength toilet paper in my time. My Grandmother insisted on using Izal Medicated Toilet Tissue, which I don't think is available any more. It was great for us to use...

Re: I've finally got my book published!

Thanks P&P, it was hard to get a publisher, took over a year of rejections, enough to almost put me off the whole idea.

Now it's done it's another thing off my bucket list!

Re: It's a Bit Windy Here

Thankfully the wind has eased a bit this evening, plenty of drizzle though (or as they say around these parts 'torrential mist'. Mind you, I have been keeping a very good eye on a certain weather site which has proven to be very accurate over the last three years and they reckon the cold is going to...

I've finally got my book published!

I've been working on a book for a while and while I had trouble getting a publisher, it's now finally available! :downtown: The book is called Fall Prevention for Older People: A Survival Guide and it's available from Amazon.co.uk, Amazon.com and 'in all good bookshops' as they say on the radio ads....

New Suggestion for Slug Trap.

I was out in the garden the other day checking the beans and I was forever batting away wasps. I decided that one of granny's wasp traps was needed, you know the jam-jar with a bit of jam and water and a hole in the lid. Well, we didn't have any jars with mouldy jam in them so I made one with the re...

Re: Skip treasure

James, we don't have a freecycle scheme operating here (Ireland) or anything like it. There are a few charity shops around and we do take stuff there occasionally but apparantly some of the 'charity' shops are franchises who donate only a small percentage of the takings to the actual charity and kee...

Re: Skip treasure

After about 2 years of nagging from my better half I ordered a skip to declutter the sheds and a bedroom that had been used as a junk / store room. My two lads and I started to fill the skip. Mostly complete junk and by lunchtime had it nearly full with only two sheds cleared. But I had a cunning st...

Re: Childhood food memories

This reminds me of a younger cousin of mine. His favourite dinner when he was about 4 was 'Beenz, Heinz and legs' or to put it another way, Heinz beans and eggs. He loved it but the mixture of baked beans and eggs has always turned me right off :pukeright: . Can't even have them on the same plate, a...

Grow Your Own TV Programme last night.

Did anybody see the programme "Grow Your Own" on BBC4 last night? I settled down to watch it thinking it would be full of good advice - but it wasn't that kind of programme at all. Actually is was a film about an allotment society and their new foreign members. It highlighted the therapeut...

Re: Bought a great greenhouse in Lidl today.

Just thought I'd give you an update on the 'great' greenhouse situation. In the 6 weeks since I put it up the plastic has remained stable. No holes yet. Not that it really matters anymore because the greenhouse took off in the wind and landed in a nearby field. I did go and rescue it though. The pla...

Re: what to do with a burnout?

Berti, I'm not sure how you're feeling now but I know exactly what you mean. I too had a burnout experience. For me it was work related but it impacted on every aspect of my life. I was (eventually) able to recognise the problem after having had one course of antidepressants from my GP. I knew that ...

Re: Move to Ireland? Medical care question and others

Hi Nomada, The medical care in Ireland is rather hit and miss. The system is nothing like the NHS. Only those on a very low income (basically the dole) are entitled to medical cards, those fractionally above this limit get GP only cards, which gives free GP visits. Everybody else pays. A visit to a ...

Re: Bought a great greenhouse in Lidl today.

Well, bu**ger me! I feel rightly stitched up now - a greenhouse that doesn't like sun - did you ever hear the likes of that in all your born days? Well I'll just have to give it a go and see what happens. Muddywitch, I would have a go at the plastic bottle greenhouse except it needs more than a hamm...
