Re: A rant....why does a hospital visit cost so much???

I know exactly what your OH feels when it comes to labelling yourself as disabled but the fact is... he is... as I am and it's a hard thing to swallow but at the end of the day he's entitled to it and you need it to pay for hospital visits. It took me 4 years to admit I was disabled as I too don't f...

Re: A rant....why does a hospital visit cost so much???

I second what Al says plus the fact you can claim back the fees of travelling from the hospital if you provide proof of any benefits he receives! My OH is doing just that next week when going up to Truro to get tests done on his lungs! If he has a blue badge he can also get a free bus pass on applic...

Re: Shopped: the shocking power of British supermarkets

Won't set foot in the horrible place nor any other Stupormarkets... luckily it's a lovely community here with some very good local shops which means I no longer have to rely on T*sco et al which I am very grateful for. It's hard to wean yourself off but at the end of the day cheap isn't always best ...

Re: clean a disgustingly filthy bathroom door?

Sugarsoap? Try bicarb of soda on a damp cloth perhaps... quite abrasive a vinegar soaked cloth plastered on the door for a while should bring it off ... uhm... If the loo is full of limescale / stained try pouring a bottle of full fat coke down it, that usually shifts it This link may have some othe...

Re: Please can I keep my old motor ?

I have 2 vehicles, the main family mover and all round work vehicle is a X reg (2000) Mercedes Vito van, that is rusting from the inside out quicker than I can fix it. It gets a hard life, we live down a dirt track, the horse is also down a long dirt track and it gets filled with everything I can g...

Re: Please can I keep my old motor ?

Our car is a 17 year old Mazda 323F and it has lower emissions than most NEW cars! I love my car and I am keeping it for as long as it's running!

This rubbish scheme was just to prop the motor industry up and nothing else... it was just whitewashed over to look 'green'

Re: What is poverty?

I would class poverty as not being able to afford the essentials but then what do you class as essential... it varies from person to person. Certainly according to the government a TV is essential... I don't have nor don't want one but then even if I did, I couldn't afford one nor the licence to own...

Re: trouble sleeping

I've had trouble sleeping for years and years. There is no one answer I don't think Lots of things work for others / for a short amount of time like herbal tablets, warm milk but yes, make sure your bedroom is dark, cool and airy at night. Don't nap in the day... I know it's tempting, I fall asleep ...

Re: Good News about my OH's health!

Thanks all... yep... country / sea air and fishing have done the trick! I'm just relieved there's no scarring or long term effects. I wanted to share it with you guys because you helped me SO much when I was alone and very upset while he was in hospital... THANKYOU! :)

Hmm... what to do with Blackcurrants...

We bought some reduced to clear Blackcurrants last week for a picnic but they weren't the nicest things to eat straight out of the packet and as we had been given a punnet of Strawberries from a local guy we shoved the Blackcurrants back in the fridge. Not wanting to waste them and having too small ...

Re: Beef

I find the only Beef that tastes nice is Organic, luckily we have a local butcher who has his own Soil Association / Organic certified slaughter house and specializes in Organic / Free Range and the Beef we have had from him has been astoundingly good. I'd rather pay a bit more for good meat and pou...
