Re: Growing in 2021

Re: Growing in 2021

We got 5kg potatoes for free at work... (The institute I work for is quite big in potato breeding - this was Mayan Gold.) And I eat so few, I'm sure they'll last me all year!

Now it's sunny and a relative balmy 12.8°c
12.8??? That's 2 degree more than in my bedroom, where I sit huddled in my duvet...

I sometimes wished I could go for a coffee, even with nobody to talk to, just to see something different! And they've closed the local library again...

Re: Growing in 2021

No mowing needed here, either! Ice on the road again this morning... Had to chisel a leek out of the ground for my soup.

Re: Self Sufficient 2021

Stats up here - so many cases in the nearest four or so miles that this whole village could be laid up with the virus. We're in a real virus hot spot. Not that there's anything to do with the weather being distinctly colder than cold. Even the dog walkers are doing very short walks. Can you still b...

Re: Self Sufficient 2021

The advantage of living somewhere with at least some spare space... Unfortunately I'm in a very small house, and despite having bought a shed early on, everything is just stuffed full with things I want to keep. Result? When I need something that I suspect I have somewhere, I can't find it.

Re: Self Sufficient 2021

It's definitely getting very icy out there - had to go out yesterday for a hygienist's appointment, so did some shopping as well, but otherwise I'd prefer to stay inside! I feel very insecure on ice, despite my grips on the boots. They are extremely difficult to get on as well. Unfortunately I'll be...

Re: It really is difficult at the moment

Sadly that's true.

Well, I have my wonderful new jumper - and what a difference! I can see myself buying a new one from them every 2 years or so, to always have one for "best", and the one last in line for wearing in bed...

Re: What's a Self Sufficient Christmas

Not very Ish here.... but I've been given a lot towards the food - parcels full of Lebkuchen and "proper" Stollen from Germany, a goody bag from my employer (strangely enough, lebkuchen and stollen bites!!! - and mince pies...), plus 5kg of tatties also from the institute (they work on breeding them...

Re: Using recycled plastic

There are more and more shops that let you refill your own containers. Just rather difficult for somebody like me without a car - can't constantly carry lots of empty jars etc around! Calls for a lot more planning. And at the moment I can't get to the shop where I usually buy my coffee, and where I ...

Re: Self Sufficient 2021

I suppose so - might do that if and when I get the time. At the moment, far too many more important things... Like tidying up the kitchen, and the rest of the house, and the garden... And anyway, if and when I do get around to tidying up, I might even find the original!

Re: Self Sufficient 2021

I'm a dab hand at skirts - not sure OH has the legs for one though (or me for that matter) I used to make comfortable trousers of the elastic waist variety myself... Jeans are rather more difficult. And yes, skirts are much easier, but I haven't worn one in decades and can't see myself ever ...
