Re: What is the strangest thing you've brewed?
I made some wheat wine once, and tea wine too - they were both absolutely horrible

Re: Ubuntu 12.04
I'd love to use Linux but only a very early version will install on my old laptop. Then as I have to use a dongle to access the web I can't get that to work with the old version of Ubuntu

Re: comfrey in ground or pot?
If you have good soil it will go pretty mad. Mine is supposed to be Bocking 14 but it grows about a foot a week in warm weather. Not seen any seedlings but it's surrounded by grass so can't be certain. Although actually I don't normally leave it long enough to set seed anyway. Grown in a pot would d...

Re: Stringless runner beans?
I never bother to eat runners now, although I still grow them for sale. I think the flat french beans (like Hunter, Helda etc) are superior in just about every respect. Flavour, texture, ease and speed to prepare, no waste. Ability to grow in a tunnel for early crops. The only real downside I've not...

Re: Blackcurrant wine
In my opinion many recipes use far too much of the flavour ingredient, I often reduce it by about half. I'd say 3lbs of berries is ample for a gallon of wine, I might actually use only 2lbs.

Re: Help with wine
Did you taste it? - if it tasted quite dry then it may have about finished. There should still be enough yeast left in to carry on fermenting if it hasn't finished. I wouldn't worry about it, give it a few days and see if it starts to ferment a bit more. If it doesn't, taste it, and if you've happy ...

Re: Ethical Banking, again
I don't know if there is such a thing as an ethical bank - there should be of course, cos lots of people would use it. (But would it be viable?) I took my money out of Santander when I heard some horror stories about them. Now I use Nationwide, which is a building society but has most normal banking...

Re: Top tips for the diy polytunnel maker
For that size of tunnel I think you really need metal pipe. Smaller (narrower) tunnels can be made with largish diameter polythene water pipe, but it's not very rigid or strong, and would need supporting in the middle at that width. I made one a few years ago form the old type galvanized iron/steel ...

Re: Tunnel apids
What plants are the greenfly on doofaloofa? I've not been growing early veg in the tunnel recently as it's always full up with plants for sale. I have a feeling that the material the cover is made from may affect aphids. I remember seeing different cover plastic being sold as affecting insect life a...
