if it aint bulging, and there is no rust on the inside when you open it, smells and looks ok it is probably safe if it aint meat or fish (botulism not fun).

Yep alcohol kills most bugs. Personally, I would use ethanol for any use where it enters any orifice!

If it's not Ethyl Alcohol (ie methyl or isopropol) don't consume it in any form tincture or otherwise. Liver failure, blindness and death will be likely results. Use it as fuel. If it is everclear - Ethyl alcohol such as you would find in vodka, don't drink it at 100% (it will actually only be azeot...

to help them dry, dip each bunch into BOILING water for a few/10 seconds it splits the skins and helps to allow the moisture to evaporate
