Re: Improving your Ish in 2010

You've just made a good plan then - to have a plan and stick with it.

Start with the little things so that you feel good about your achievements eh? Then you will feel better about tackling bigger ideas.

Improving your Ish in 2010

Everyone making plans to be that bit more Ish in the coming year? Even in little things?

Mine's a small one in making more of my own herbal teas. Well that's the first one.

So who else has plans?

Re: Renting tips

Funnily enough that point came up at one of our resident panel meetings (housing association tenant here) when the youngest (aged 62) of the road in a similar situation had to keep an eye on the rest of the oldies. Because everyone had coal fires due to being off gas mains in an isolated area, this ...

http://www.woollyshepherd.co.uk/index.asp - with so many sheep you'd think that we would be awash with British woollen products but it seems not so. http://www.choosebritish.co.uk/ - lot of good ideas and information here. http://www.buybritish.net/ - another interesting website. http://lovebritish...

Re: Can I "not buy anything new for a year?"

Now being a skint pensioner with no chance of a job, I've decided that the only possible shopping in the next 12 months will be if the washing machine or computer die of age and overwork. The washing machine has been threatening to give up the ghost for a couple of years but it will work till it die...

Re: Anyone else cold?

Broom and salt job to clear a line from the road, down the steps to the front door yesterday so that the postman could get to the door. Well there was a parcel due, can't have the postman damaged when there's a present due. We're in the cycle of snow showers, thaw a bit, freeze a lot, sleet and snow...

Re: Anyone else cold?

It's hovering around 0 degrees C here. Sight of snowflakes and sleet sometimes. Trouble is that it has frozen on the town's pavements which means that walking is a bit slippery.

Re: Shovels and spades!

You'd be amazed at how many gardeners on other forums seem to think that a spade is a spade is also a shovel. Can't say that I understand the logic either. But there you go. I've joined the shovel and spade brigade.

Re: Does everyone grow their veg in straight lines?

I've done blocks of vegetables this year - block of swedes next to block of cabbage etc so that I can do the rotation but plant small or large amounts of seeds as required. Rows is boring.

53. Nothing thanks. I can't be doing with more "stuff" round the flat. I'm still working out where to put "Stuff" from last year.

54. Less consumerism. It's a flaming spendfest and no fun at all is Xmas.

Re: these plastic 'bag for life' things

The answer to the great carrier bag debate is to shop less of course so that you need fewer bags. The flaming local co-op delivers all their goods in plastic carrier bags and not the bags for life either. Result is that I tend not to use the co-op even though it's only five minutes down the road so ...

Re: Alternatives to Christmas trees?

There's the old fallen branch off a tree "planted" in a pot and decorated - frost, snow or whatever from a can, anything artistic that takes you. A single large enough holly branch with berries can be fun to work with as well. Better something real though than a tacky plastic copy don't yo...

Re: Well it had to happen

I'm totally confused. The scientists in question are taking animal products from animals to make meat from the way I read the article. So at present they are still working with animals and will have to keep some of them to do whatever they do. What a very odd way to go on when you think about it. To...
