Will try later. Currently having trouble uploading pics to flickr. The tomatoes are looking good (bit spindly because they had to stay in their pots too long but they'll fill out nicely in a few days. The peppers are looking a bit sickly though - I'm thinking it might be too cold for them even thoug...

Probably preaching to the choir but I presume you know you can make a good aphid spray with the leaves, which I presume you'll have tons of if you've got lots of rhubarb.

Bit weird seeing this today - we had seitan barbecued "spareribs" for supper last night. I used vital wheat gluten (bought online from one of these Atkins Diet-type websites) - much cheaper than from vegan sites. Mixed 4 cups of VWG with 2 cups of wholewheat flour, loads of seasonings that...

Handmade cosmetics

I hadn't posted my website before because I know a lot of sites don't like it. I'm an aromatherapist and make all my products with only natural ingredients (except the soaps which I'll explain about in a minute). My website at the mo is very rudimentary. You know the story - marry a plumber and have...

Don't think so but you could try putting a tsp of vinegar in your water next time - see if that shifts it. If you're worried email mooncup - hopefully they'll know!

Sorry to sound rude but why do you want bactericidal soap? Your body is covered in bacteria which help protect it from colonisation by harmful bacteria. Bactericides don't discriminate. Soap and water is perfectly adequate for keeping you clean. Also, some of the research done about the harmful effe...

Problem resolved

Tunnel now up and running - thanks to neighbours helping to put the skin on. It's now full of tomatoes etc and the aforesaid neighbours are all waiting with baited breath for the next big wind to carry it off into Balnakeil Bay!!! If it survives the winter I fear Balnakeil may find itself full of po...

Going to the pictures up here is fantastic - it arrives on the back of a lorry (google "screen machine" to see it). Top 5 films Matter of Life and Death Fargo Seven samurai (or any Kurosawa film) Those are always in my top 5 and then currently Taxi (1,2,3 and waiting for 4 to come out on D...

Cheapest place we found to buy nematodes is on Amazon. There are apparently over 8000 different types. so what you found in your manure may well be. They are basically any roundworms. We had good results in our last garden with them, but our main problem up here are snails - are they sluggy enough t...

Oh you've started something now.

My OH wants to add Dettol to it to make it taste like retsina!

I suppose we'll be picking lots of green bits off frozen dandelion heads this weekend.

Hey ho.

Thanks for that We actually discussed fitting it along one long side first as it seemed to make sense, but decided to follow the instructions instead (even though they were totally counter-intuitive). I think tomorrow we'll try it that way. You make me feel totally inadequate - our 10' x 15' polytun...

The mooncup is fantastic. I've been truly amazed at how comfortable, safe it is and no mishaps.
Bit expensive but lasts forever.

cheap brandy

I've got a recipe for plum brandy (which uses whisky but that's a whole other story). The author said she used good quality spirits because she wasn't patient enough to wait for the mixture to mature and mellow. Implying - I suppose - that if you're prepared to leave it for a while you can get good ...

Not sure - I thought you just used salt (and cabbage of course)! However, it may be a good way of using up the whey rather than chucking it out. (Having discovered paradise and being flat broke all in the same place I'm becoming slightly obsessional about getting something out of every last scrap). ...

Uses for whey

I'm just reading a book called Nourishing Traditions (bit weird but interesting).
She talks about using whey to cause lacto-fermentation for preserving veg - like sauerkraut etc.
