i tend to start seeds that need to be planted in the winter in the greenhouse.

I also grow winter cabbage in there to make it look pretty and useful (and to go into the compost when it dies).

Keeping some compost in there in a small bin wqouldn't be a bad idea - it creates its own heat.

try just planting them and see what happens! I'm growing melons that way at the moment. Ask the Soapnut people - they'll be able to tell you whether the soapnuts get treated in any way as well, so you know whether the seeds are likely to grow.
