Planting bits of new lawn

Parts of my lawn have been taken over by moss due to unusually wet weather, so bad that I've had to dig bits up to get it out. It's all level and ready to go with the grass seed, but does anyone have any tips re watering, fertilising etc that don't involve nasty chemicals? I'm also worried about it ...

Testing compost?

I read a book recently that said not to use home-made compost as it's likely to be full of diseases and the wrong PH etc. After lovingly making my compost, I'm concerned, is there any way to test it or should I just ignore the book??

Too much compost!

Hi everyone, I haven't been on here much recently and it's lovely to see lots of new people! I have a problem. We eat LOADS of veg everyday so we always have a pile of veg peelings. We've filled all our compost bins now so I don't know what to do with it, I'm not going to send it to the landfill. I'...

Re: Essential oils as fragrance

I do but I don't use a carrier oil as they don't last long on me - I use vodka instead and the fragrance lasts ages. My fave combos are: Lavender, orange and patchouli. Basil, clary sage, fennel and lavender. Lemongrass, fennel, patchouli and grapefruit. Sandalwood, patchouli and frankinsense. The ...

Essential oils as fragrance

Does anyone use essential oil blends as fragrance for themselves rather than their home? If so, do you mix with a carrier oil or something? What's your favourite blend? I'd love to know more as I'm considering doing this!

What can I do with these?

I have spare pan lids (glass and metal) from broken pans, and lots of empty CD cases, is there anyway they can be recycled or is landfill the only option? :(

Next time to plant garlic?

I recently read something that advised to just plant garlic all year round, which goes against what I thought. When would you say is the next time I can plant garlic? I'm just wondering as I've been given some good ones I'm itching to plant!

I never thought of that! Belongings out of the home are often insured, good idea. Hope your son is ok, what a frustrating situation :hugish:

Re: Well it had to happen

See I don't get this. If you are vegetarian then why on earth would you want something that tastes (or has the texture of) meat? :dontknow:[/quote] Because lots of people are vegetarian due to moral reasons, rather than not liking the taste. Also, I wasn't really talking about vegetarians, as meat ...

Re: Well it had to happen

Quorn lets meat alternatives down. It's not tasty. However, RealEat chicken style pieces are so much like chicken it's weird. Redwood (various), Linda McCartney stuff, etc are all tasty. Just wish I could make them myself!

Re: Well it had to happen

I wouldn't mind trying artificial meat, actually... I have a moral issue with meat because it comes from a living animal, but I really like the taste (and am too fussy to be sufficiently nutriented without it in my diet!). I quite like quorn, but having been a poor student all my life, have never r...

Ooh, I'd love to know too! What did your banana and soy one have in it? I always wonder how to keep them fresh for long enough
