Re: What to do with a field?

Pete Several of the CLs that we used were in pretty rural locations - single track with passing places wasn't unusual! In a field of the size he has, he could fence off one bit (1/2 acre?) to use as the CL and then store his and his sister's caravan in another part - the 28 day thing shouldn't be a ...

Re: What to do with a field?

If he is thinking about caravans, how about a Caravan Club certificated (their word, not mine) location? The basic requirements are a drinking water tap and somewhere to empty toilet waste - we have stayed on several in the past and this can be anything from a fancy shed with raised waste pipe to a ...

Re: A New Blog About Off Grid Living, Building, Gardening &

Green Aura - some aspects of RVing can be green, just depends on how you do it. We spent 18 months travelling around Europe in a motorhome, albeit a smaller one than Mike & Lisa's - mostly solar power with only occasional mains in dull weather, extremely frugal water use (100l tank lasted us 2 d...

Re: Help! 5 year old started pooing in her pants!

I have no kids therefore no experience, so I might be talking a load of rubbish. But, if she is aware of what she is doing and is scared that it might hurt, is it worth trying to get her to understand that she is already doing the bit that would hurt - the having a poo bit. If it isn't hurting her t...

Re: Caught between a rock and hard place!

This is probably a bit blunt, but you say that you don't think your mum will be around for much longer anyway. So a move to Oz does not have to be a permanent commitment if you don't want it to be. Once you no longer have to think about your mum, you can re-evaluate, decide if you have settled as we...

Re: Legislation concerning bar staff and drink driving

Many years ago a friend got very drunk at a party, as he often did. He decided not to stay the night as originally planned and to drive home. We tried to take the keys from him but he got quite aggressive - he promised to sleep it off in his car and not drive and stupidly we believed him. Of course,...

Re: Homemade dubbin type thingy

The inconsistency is down to timing - I only became vegetarian about 18 months ago. Now that I've made that decision, I won't be buying new leather (or anything containing tallow), but I also didn't want to throw out any leather items that I already owned because a) it is wasteful and expensive and ...

Homemade dubbin type thingy

I want to make some sort of dubbin or leather treatment/preserver for my shoes and boots - recipes I've found so far contain tallow. As a recent vegetarian, I don't want to use that so am looking for something else - any ideas? And before anyone points out that vegetarians shouldn't wear leather, I'...

Re: Red and brown onions

I regularly use red instead of brown in cooking. The only difference I have noticed is the colour - when cooked, they can lose their red and become a bit greyish, which has made for some slightly odd looking frittatas. I suspect this will matter more to some people than others!

I didn't expect to see that!

These adverts that are on the site (I know they pay the bills, I'm not knocking them generally!)....I've just had one appear for McD's!

Asian beauties is one thing, but McD's on Ish? What is the world coming to?

Re: Am I deficient in something?

Thanks for the suggestions. Yes, still eating milk & cheese. Probably not enough leafy greens, so I'll up that. I've been adding flaxseeds to my breakfast for the last 6 months, but only recently discovered that they should be ground to get maximum omega benefits, so switched to ground a couple ...

Am I deficient in something?

I suspect I may have a deficiency in my diet, but I'm not sure what. I became vegetarian about 6 months and, although I'm trying to do it properly, maybe I'm missing something. Over the last couple of weeks, my skin has become very dry and rough on my thighs & arms. My nails are breaking more th...

Re: Have you ever seen a ghost?

My aunt used to live in a 16th century farmhouse. She had a resident spirit who she believed watched over her. She is an artist and many years ago had an accident which meant she couldn't paint. Money was getting tight and she started thinking about having to sell the farmhouse. She then started fin...

Re: East Enders

I read an item about there being 6000 complaints and now the SIDS organisation is getting onboard, complaining that it doesn't accurately portray the victims of SIDS, belittles the syndrome etc. Whilst I wouldn't want to make light of the suffering that anyone who has experienced SIDS goes through, ...

Re: What does a Vegetable Korma cost?

Not sure about a veggie korma, but our local does veggie thali which has several dishes - aubergine curry, chickpea masala, rice, aloo gobi and a couple of other bits - for £12. Easily enough for people. We have found it a bit greasy recently though so have started getting takeaway from M%S - main c...
