Cool well done

How long did you have to wait for a plot?

I think about 2 years, I was 7th on the list back in January. There are 2 rented but unused plots next to mine and 2 more which are kind of lost/ buried under trees and shrubs.
Was speaking to a guy who's had two plots there for 30 years (he remembered my both of my grandfathers having plots on the same site) the council have just asked him to give up one of his plots cos there are now over 30 people on the list. There are only 30 plots in the parish so was really lucky to get one so quickly.

I reckon they should make the people not using their plots give them up before asking the guy who's been there a long time to give up one of them. Our committee is on to things like that with 6 monthly inspections and if it's not 50% cultivated all year every year, you get the dreaded eviction notice.

Well done  I think it's really great having that fence all around your plot - you can make good use of that having things climbing up over it. :flower:

Well done you!! What sort of soil is it? I am the secretary for our small site, and we have just had to evict someone for not working their plot. They argued that they paid their rent, but as far as I'm concerned that is not good enough when people are waiting who want to grow their own food. Like you I am only five minutes away, which is the best thing about it! Unlike you, I dont have a little helper! pbf.

The area is part of an ancient river bed, there is now only a small stream which runs along the bottom of the 'valley' into the Hamble. So the soil is generally heavy clay, but the allotments are up on the hill a bit and have been in use for years so it's not too bad. My house is on the other side of the stream and the soil here is really bad. I've a friend whose in laws are pig farmers so I have a ready supply of piggy poo to dig in along with several family compost heaps. There are tonnes of worms too so here's hoping!
