What herb or Veg?

Post: # 2696Post Andy Hamilton »

As ever we are open to suggestion as to what herb or veg of the month. Have a check around the main site to ensure we have not already done it but other than that ask away.

I would like to suggest Basil as herb of the month, and Sweetcorn as vegetable of the month. I have had a quick check and I can't see that these have been done as monthly articles before. This is for purely selfish reasons as my basil seedlings are not looking too clever, although my sweetcorn seedlings are looking fabulous. I'm suggesting sweetcorn as it is supposed to be really delicious straight from the garden to the pot.

Sweetcorn/Maize

Sweetcorn would be too bad to do, I am quite fascinated by all the food from central America. Just image life before tomatoes, potatoes, chili, corn and of course chocolate!

basil is the best.... we buy seedlings here from market for a couple of cents each, and plant it in with everything....
tomatoes grow much better with basil around...

What is more delicious than corn on the cob? We always grow it and it is such a treat fresh from the allotment, lightly boiled and served with butter. Yum! (Current treat is asparagus served the same way. Have you done this one, chaps?)
