Re: almonds
they fall of the tree. then you pull/rub of the peach looking husk and leave the nuts in their shells to dry for a month or two. after that crack as desired.

What Jed said, plus I would add ... try them as soon as they drop off the tree. You do have to peel off the inside skin (which is easy) but the nuts taste creamy and wonderful, quite unlike dry almonds.
You can do exactly the same with walnuts.

Re: almonds
Hi All, I have just joined today and am finding my way around. I have picked all of my almonds over 2 weeks ago without risking life and limb, its a big tree ( circa 8 mtr ) and old so this winter I will prune back at least a third. The almonds are ripe and taste great, I pick them when the green husk stars splitting and showing you the nut. Does anyone have a liquor recipe ? Thanks

Re: almonds
In Cyprus they are also eaten at the green and raw stage.
