Hazlenuts

I've been out foraging today and have picked a whole load of hazlenuts in the green. I recently saw HFW talking about how lovely they tasted before they turn brown and he was right. They definitely have a sweet green pea flavour and I just wish I could find a way of removing them from their shells which didn't involve a pair of secateurs and a sore thumb.
Previous years I have left them to ripen to brown and they've all disppeared practically overnight, so this year I thought I'd beat the little creatures to it and I'm so glad I did.
Anyone got any sensible suggestions for removing the creamy white flesh from the shell please?
