DC motor vertical axis wind turbine?

Hi All

I have been promised a decent size 24volt DC motor from a mobility scooter and I would like to build a wind turbine using it.

I want to build a VAW turbine because it will be less conspicuous than a conventional turbine and I don't have to worry about slip rings etc.

Has anyone built one of these?

Paul

I don't know anything about the mechanics of them, sorry. I do know that VAWs are much better suited to environments where there is turbulence - where there are other buildings (or maybe polytunnels  ) for example.

I may be able to get a quantity of second hand batteries from the same source if I play my cards right.

Here we come off grid dome.

Not constructed one, but I used to be involved with a small wind mailing list and the received wisdom there was that VAWTs were generally a waste of time. Maybe good in theory, but they never worked. Paul Gipe and High Pigott are small wind experts - it might be worth making contact with them.
